Bragging Rights Over NASCAR Stars Motivates Bernstein Prior To 4-Wide Race

It's not often that the stars of the NHRA and NASCAR square off on the same field, so when Brandon Bernstein, driver of the ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV Fuel dragster, laces up is spikes Wednesday as part of a drag racing contingent competing in a charity softball game against stock car racing's pros, he promises he's going to carry the same attitude he'll bring to this weekend's Dollar General NHRA 4-Wide Nationals.

"It's going to be fun and competitive, I can tell you that," Bernstein said. "We're ready to win this thing. The NHRA guys have been throwing and going to batting practice, so we want to come out and beat those guys pretty good."

Through the years, Bernstein has crossed paths with many of NASCAR's stars and struck up friendships with several of them, so some bragging rights are definitely on the line.

"I'm going to be playing outfield so I'm ready to make some spectacular catches over the wall," Bernstein said. "It's been a while since we've been able to get together and play against the NASCAR guys.

"It's a change to get out on the field and compete against these guys. We see them off and on as our racing schedules allow. Kasey Kahne is playing in it and he is one of my good buddies over there. It's going to be good to hang out and have some fun."

Wednesday's game takes place at CMC-NorthEast Stadium in Kannapolis, N.C. There will be an autograph session for the first 200 fans starting at 5 p.m. First pitch is at 7 p.m. For more information, go to http://www.intimidatorsbaseball.com/nhra.

Although the 4-Wide format is not Bernstein's favorite, racing in Charlotte has been good to him. Last year, Bernstein started a hot streak during the Countdown race in Charlotte that led to a handful of semifinal appearances and his win to close the season in Pomona.

"Bruton Smith has built a spectacular facility and we are excited about getting back there," Bernstein said. "We had success there last fall. The racing surface is excellent and the facility is top-notch. It's an excellent formula for going out there and winning races."

Qualifying for the Dollar General NHRA 4-Wide Nationals get under way at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, qualifying will continue at 12:15 p.m. Sunday's eliminations get under way at noon. ESPN2 will broadcast the qualifying show at 5 p.m. EDT on Saturday and the eliminations show at 7 p.m. Sunday.
