Matt Tifft Readies ARCA Midwest Tour Return At Toledo Speedway

With an off-weekend in his rookie campaign in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, Matt Tifft and his family-owned team in affiliation with Tim Schendel-led Iron Eagle Racing will take part in the coveted 7-UP 150 at Toledo Speedway Saturday night.

The hometown event also signifies the return to the ARCA Midwest Tour for Tifft, since being crowned Rookie-of-the-Year in the popular series in January. While the youngster is more than ready to return to the series, a lot of unknowns still face him in one of the most anticipated races of the year at the Northern Ohio-based racetrack.

Despite his array of racing experience across the country, the 16-year old has never competed at Toledo Speedway before. Studying pictures and surveying the track in-person don’t amount to the justice that actual track time accounts for. Luckily, an open-practice on Friday afternoon will allow Tifft to familiarize himself and his No. 89 DOC 360 Ford Fusion to the track’s characteristics.

“I’m anxiously looking forward to my Toledo Speedway debut this weekend,” said Tifft. “I’m excited about the opportunity to finally race there, plus have the chance to make my return to the ARCA Midwest Tour, that’s an added bonus. I’m going to let my lack of experience stand in our way. We have some time before qualifying and the last-chance races take place to hopefully set our No. 89 DOC 360 Ford Fusion into the track that will equal strong lap times. There’s a lot of hype surrounding this race, so we’re going to do everything in our power to make sure we’re around for all 150 laps.”

Luckily this weekend, Tifft won’t have to go far for driver advice. Fellow Win-Tron Racing teammate and current ARCA Racing Series championship points leader Mason Mingus is also scheduled to compete in the 7-UP 150 with his family-owned team.

“Mason’s a good guy and a great competitor,” Tifft added. “Even though we’re not technically under the Win-Tron Racing banner this weekend, we’re still teammates. I plan to lean on him and let him know what my car is doing and hopefully he can give me some advice to make it better. But, when the green flag waives for the race we’re racers and I know most of that goes out the window. I know we’ll be able to race against one another cleanly and competitively.”

Saturday night’s showdown also presents an opportunity for Tifft to focus on one thing, winning. With no championship points on the line, Tifft doesn’t have to hold back.

“We’re going to Toledo to win this weekend,” Tifft sounded. “I also know that a lot of others are going with the same mentality as us. We just have to dial-in our DOC 360 Ford, keep our nose clean and hope within the final laps of the race, we’ll be there battling for the win.”

In addition to DOC 360, the team is appreciative of the support of Malco Automotive Products, JLP CPA’s, Rapid Marketplace and also the ARCA Rookie of the Year winning products of Pathfinder Chassis, Five Star Race Car Bodies, QuarterMaster, Roltek Transmission, Appleton Racks, and Schaeffer Oil. Without them, this weekend’s race would not be possible.

Tifft concluded, “I know that still in this tough economical time, I’m very appreciative to everyone who’s helping make my racing career possible. It’s my intent to give nothing less than 100 percent behind the wheel and award our team and sponsors with a great finish in my Toledo debut.”

Following Saturday night’s event, Tifft will shift gears once again and refocus on his NASCAR K&N Pro Series season with a race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, where his Win-Tron Racing team will look to improve on their respectable top-20 finish at Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway last Saturday.
