THE NEWS AND NOTES

· BRANCHING OUT WITH REDD’S: This weekend, the No. 2 Ford will branch out with a different paint scheme. REDD’S Apple Ale, a new product from MillerCoors, will adorn Brad Keselowski’s ride for this weekend’s race at Richmond International Raceway (RIR). Crisp like an apple. Brewed like an ale. REDD’s is different to the core – the perfect ale for the curious drinker looking for a fresh, new kind of beer.

· KANSAS GRIT: After a lap one incident left Keselowski with damage to the rear of his No. 2 Ford at Kansas, resulting in a lost lap, Keselowski and team showed true grit by maintaining focus and moving forward. The result was a sixth-place finish that has him positioned third in the series standings.

· STRONG QUALIFIER: Not known as a great qualifier, Keselowski does enjoy the time trial sessions at RIR. While still looking for his first pole award at the oval, he has started inside the top 10 in five of his seven careers starts at Richmond.

· RACE TO RECOVERY: Keselowski will hold his first “Race To Recovery” event this weekend at RIR. His Checkered Flag Foundation hosts wounded military and first responders at various racetracks throughout the year, giving them VIP treatment and full-speed ride-a-longs as incentive to get back to a normal life at an accelerated rate.

· A TOUGH WEEKEND: Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil team couldn’t get out of Kansas fast enough. The 22-year-old driver entered Kansas ranked ninth in the point standings. However, following a NASCAR-issued penalty and a disappointing 39th-place finish after being involved in an accident with the No. 18 car of Kyle Busch just 100 laps into the race, Logano now finds himself 20th in the standings. Despite the ranking, Logano is only 53 points outside of the top 10.

· A LITTLE SPONSOR LOVE: This week will mark the annual Penske Racing Sponsor Summit and Logano and his fellow Penske drivers will get a little chance to shine on the links. As part of the sponsor summit, the drivers will play golf with those in attendance on Wednesday.

· TIME TO TURN IT AROUND AT RICHMOND: Richmond International Raceway will be the perfect place to turn things back around for Logano and grab his first win of the 2013 season. Logano’s best career finish at Richmond came in the fall race of 2010, when he finished fourth. He has qualified in the top-10 in three of the last five races at Richmond. He has earned three top-10s in for starts at Richmond in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

THE Q & A

BRAD KESELOWSKI, NO. 2 REDD’S APPLE ALE FORD

WHAT DOES YOUR HARD-FOUGHT SIXTH-PLACE FINISH LAST WEEK AT KANSAS SAY ABOUT THE MAKEUP OF YOUR TEAM?

“Our No. 2 Ford team never gives up. Ever. Racing – and specifically, winning a championship – isn’t about what you do when things go your way. It’s about how you react when your backs are against the wall. We definitely had our share of adversity at Kansas, but the guys dug deep and we were able to rebound for a solid finish. I feel like we execute a race as well as anyone in the garage. That’s how you win races and championships.”

HOW COOL WILL THE REDD’S PAINT SCHEME LOOK UNDER THE LIGHTS ON SATURDAY NIGHT?

“The REDD’S Apple Ale paint scheme should really pop under the lights on Saturday night. It’s a great looking car. Everyone knows I like to do things a little bit differently. This was an opportunity for me to branch out from the normal routine. It’s a great product that I would encourage everyone to try.”

JOEY LOGANO, NO. 22 SHELL-PENNZOIL FORD

HAS YOUR FOCUSED CHANGED AFTER THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS?

“Most definitely not. We are going out there week after week trying to win races. If we win races, the points will take care of themselves. We just have to keep doing what we have been doing all year long, which is bringing fast racecars to the track and running up front. Kansas was the first weekend where we struggled a little bit with our speed, but we would have been able to make the most out of it at the end of the day had we not gotten caught up in that wreck with Kyle (Busch). Everyone is going to have a bad day. We just got ours out of the way already.”

DO YOU LIKE SATURDAY NIGHT RACES?

“I think all of us like Saturday night races. That is what we all grew up doing – racing at our local track on a Saturday night. There is something really cool about seeing our cars racing around the track under the lights. It’s great on TV and it’s even better in person. On top of that, it gives you a Sunday at home, which is rare for us. So yeah, I think we all love Saturday night short track racing.”
