2013 Talladega: Tristar Motorsports NASCAR Nationwide Race Preview

Talladega Superspeedway Draws Level Playing Field:

Coming out of a short track, leading up to a superspeedway can only mean one thing: it’s anybody’s race!

Eric McClure, Ready for Vengeance (@ericmcclure):

As the driver of the No. 14 Hefty / Reynolds Toyota Camry approaches the one year anniversary of the most direful wreck of his career, Eric McClure is rehabilitated and prepared to take on the steep banks of Talladega Superspeedway.

McClure said, “Truthfully, it had a bigger effect in my life off the track than on it.” Although he’s still reminded of the accident, he said “Accidents happen in this business, nothing’s changed and I look forward to competing there.”

Finishing eighth at Daytona, McClure is eager to return to Talladega, where he hopes to have the same luck as Daytona’s result.

Bliss Hopes for Better Luck at Superspeedway No. Two (MikeBliss19):

After being caught up in the first big wreck with only four laps to go at Daytona International Speedway in February, Mike Bliss is looking forward to a better result at Talladega Superspeedway. “That’s the beauty of Superspeedway racing, you never know the outcome; luck really comes into play more than ever at these tracks,” said Bliss.

This Saturday’s Aarons 312 will mark Bliss’ 200th career superspeedway start. He has led more than 400 laps at superspeedways and has sat on the pole three times, with his last pole earned in 2004.

Hal Martin, Anything But a Rookie at Superspeedways (@HalMartinRacing):

Hal Martin may be a contender for the 2013 Sunoco Rookie of the Year, but he is certainly not a rookie at Talladega Superspeedway. Martin will make his sixth career superspeedway start at Saturday’s Aaron’s 312, although this will be Martin’s first career start in a NASCAR Nationwide Series car. “Since I have competed on this track twice before in the ARCA series, I feel like I have an idea of what to expect this weekend,” said Martin.

Martin will also utilize his veteran teammates. “I plan on talking with Eric McClure, Jeff Green and Mike Bliss beforehand, so I can learn as much as I can about how these NASCAR Nationwide Series cars handle the track.”

Talladega Superspeedway is considered to be Martin’s ‘’home track’’ and he is looking forward to putting on a good show for the hometown crowd.

Jeff Green to Pilot No. 10 Camry around Talladega’s High Banks:

It’s simple, he’s a veteran! Jeff Green holds 23 NASCAR Nationwide Series poles (last at Homestead in 2002), which is sixth in the all-time record books. More than half of the poles awarded (14) were on superspeedways. Green’s best career start at Talladega Superspeedway was from the fourth position (2002) and his best finish was third (2001).

Autograph Session:

On Friday, May 3rd from 1:45 – 2:30 p.m. Hal Martin, Jeff Green and Mike Bliss will be on hand for the NASCAR Nationwide Series Autograph Session. The session will take place under the frontstretch grandstands.
