Budapest, Test: Vittorio Ghirelli (Super Nova International) Hits The

Italian Vittorio Ghirelli ended up on top of the charts at the Hungaroring in today's opening Auto GP test. The Roman-based driver, fielded by Super Nova International, logged the fastest lap of the day in 1:33.604, 0.604 seconds clear of MP Motorsport's Riccardo Agostini, who settled for second.

The Italian duo was trailed by former Formula 1 racer Narain Karthikeyan, driving for Zele Racing. The Indian is coming from a positive weekend at Marrakech that brought him his maiden pole in the series. Dutch GP2 driver Daniel De Yong took fourth while Ibiza Racing Team's Sergio Campana rounded out the top-5 in what is expected to be a crucial weekend for him. Coming from Modena, Italy, Campana completed a full testing program on older tires but he's set to switch focus from practice in order to aim at the pole position.

The championship leader, Japanese Kimiya Sato (Euronova Racing) took sixth place in front of 17-year-old Romanian Robert Visoiu (Ghinzani Motorsport), who is sporting a new national-themed livery.

Series' rookie Tamas Pal Kiss left a strong impression in 8th for MLR71. "This car is incredible - he said - initially I struggled quite a lot to re-adapt to this kind of driving because I haven't been driving since last November, but the more I increased my confidence with the car, the more I enjoyed it and, by the way, the engine has an amazing sound".

Positive comments also came from Auto GP veteran and former IndyCar Series driver Francesco Dracone (Super Nova International): "after having spent the first few laps to familiarize with the cockpit again, I observed the car's huge progress compared to the previous model in terms of aerodynamics and driving. I want to congratulate Enzo Coloni for this exciting new project and for the fact that it did not impact on the budget for the season".

Rounding the top-10 were Luciano Bacheta (Zele Racing), who won Race 2 in Morocco, and Meindert van Buuren, running with the third MP Motorsport car.
