Pirtek Teams With Percat & Coates Hire Racing

Porsche racer Nick Percat is delighted to welcome Pirtek Fluid Systems to the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup Championship, joining long-time supporter Coates Hire, on the Team BRM entry.

Pirtek has been synonymous with Australian motorsport over many years, and this year celebrated the 10th anniversary of Marcos Ambrose’s first V8 Supercar Championship in the Pirtek Falcon. Recently, dual MotoGP champion Casey Stoner made his four-wheeled motorsport debut in the Dunlop Series for V8 Supercars, with the support of Pirtek.

Percat - who won the Bathurst 1000 on debut in 2011 - will feature the Pirtek livery at round three of the Porsche Carrera Cup, at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend. Dunlop V8 Supercars Series competitor Rodney Jane will join the team for the pair of 60-minute, two-driver, races at this Championship round.

This round of the Carrera Cup Championship is the headline act at the Porsche Rennsport Australia Motor Racing Festival, an exclusive all-Porsche event that includes a Concours d’Elegance and Show ‘n’ Shine.

Former Bathurst winner, Percat is enjoying a successful rookie season in the prestigious Championship, capturing pole position for the first two rounds, finishing second three times, third twice and a DNF after the first six races, placing him third overall in points.

For Jane, it’s a return to familiar territory having raced in the Porsche Carrera Cup for several seasons, before moving onto V8 Supercars.

Team BRM held a successful test day last week at a cold and wet Phillip Island with both Percat and Jane posting very competitive times.

Nick Percat: “The Phillip Island test was good with plenty of laps in the rain. It was also good for Rod to get plenty of laps in those conditions as you learn so much about the characteristics of the car and you never know what might happen with the weather on the weekend.

“We haven’t had to change anything in the car, as our driving positions are identical. I am really happy to have Rod on board and very confident we will have a good showing. We’ve had a fast car all year and been on pole by pretty big margins in the first two rounds, so we definitely have good car speed.

“We had a really good test day at Mallala recently and did some race simulations which went really well, so I am pretty confident heading to Sydney Motorsport Park and the rest of the year, at all the tracks I enjoy racing on.”

Percat welcomed Pirtek aboard his campaign.

“I am delighted to welcome Pirtek on board for the rest of the season and it’s great to have another major Australian corporation supporting us alongside Coates Hire and Morris Finance.

“I’ve got some really good backing and couldn’t be happier and can’t wait to hit the track in Sydney.”

Rodney Jane: “It was nice to get back into a car with different grip levels that handles very differently to a V8 Supercar. It was my first time back at Phillip Island in five years and it’s a track I really enjoy, so it was nice to come down and have a drive around.

“I’m really looking forward to the Rennsport event and was lucky enough that Nick asked me to drive with him. The Island test was the first time I’ve driven one of these new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, and it was a noticeable step up from the previous model that I raced some years ago. I haven’t been to Sydney Motorsport Park for a few years, but it’s another track I enjoy.”

Jeremy Hill, Group Manager, Strategic Marketing - Coates Hire: “We have enjoyed a successful business association with Pirtek over many years and being able to continue that association on the race tracks of Australia as we both support Nick Percat in the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup Championship, is fantastic.”

Rod Chapman, General Manager Sales & Marketing - Pirtek Fluid Systems: “Pirtek is thrilled to be expanding on our motorsport involvement and more importantly excited at the opportunity to support a young rising star in Nick Percat.

“Pirtek has always looked to assist the development of young talent whether it be in motorsport or other sports and we are looking forward to seeing the Coates Hire/Pirtek Porsche on the track for the first time at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.

“We also get to partner with long time business associates in Coates Hire, so overall, we are extremely pleased to be involved in the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup championship.”
