Mike Wallace Iowa Speedway Preview

For Mike Wallace, racing at Iowa Speedway is almost like going home.

Wallace, a native of St. Louis, raced often in the area during his formative years, and his older brother, NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace, was involved in the design of the relatively new track. Iowa’s first Nationwide Series race was held in 2009.

Wallace will be driving the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller No. 01 Chevrolet in Saturday’s DuPont Pioneer 250 at the seven-eighths mile track.

“I enjoy Iowa even though I have never run well there,” Wallace said. “Hopefully, we will change that this week. With my brother, Rusty, having some involvement and the Clements family owning the place, it is like a racer’s race track.

“They even thank you for coming to the track, and it has festive activity all around the place.”

And there will be a bonus for Wallace this week. Dan Dickey, who raced with Wallace in the 1970s and 1980s, will be his special guest for the race weekend.

Wallace is 17th in Nationwide Series points 11 races into the season. He has raced five times at Iowa with an average finish of 24.8.

THE RACE: 218 miles, 250 laps, race 12 of the Nationwide Series season
