Fans Encouraged to Show Support for Charlotte's X Games Bid

On the heels of ESPN’s visit to scout Charlotte Motor Speedway as a potential location to hold the summer edition of X Games in 2014-16, the world-class sports facility’s fans can make an extra push to win over the selection committee.

Two of the most decorated athletes in the history of action sports have thrown their support behind Charlotte, touting it as the perfect fit for the pinnacle of extreme sports contests.

“Charlotte is the motor racing capital of the world,” said 17-time X Games medalist turned NASCAR driver Travis Pastrana. “Coming to Charlotte would take action sports to a whole new level. These facilities are amazing. They’ve got everything in place… I think this is just a perfect fit.”

Dave Mirra, the X Games’ most decorated athlete with 24 total metals, agreed.

“Charlotte is an unreal city and would make an awesome host for X Games considering it’s in my backyard,” said Mirra, who’s won on everything from a BMX bike to a high-powered rally cross car. “I’ve been proud to call North Carolina my home for more than 10 years.”

With a final decision expected from ESPN later this month, fans are lining up to show their support as well. Those interested in helping push Charlotte Motor Speedway as the ultimate in extreme can do so in several ways:

X Games has asked the question, “Where do you want to see X Games in 2014?” on its Facebook page. Fans can cast a vote for Charlotte by clicking: www.facebook.com/questions/10151478891176964/

Local backers have drafted an online letter of support to bring the X Games to Charlotte. Fans can sign the letter by clicking www.change.org and searching for "Help Bring X Games to Charlotte"
