Sports Car Racing Legends Coming To Kansas Speedway

Sir Stirling Moss, who is widely recognized as the greatest all around racing driver in the history of motorsports, and Denise McCluggage, a Kansas native who was one of the first female sports writers and drivers, will be at Kansas Speedway on June 21 starting at 2 PM. Both will be available for interviews during this time.

Moss began racing in 1948 and entered 527 races through the end of his career in 1962. During that time, he won 212 races including the British Grand Prix and the Monaco Grand Prix. During his career, he raced Ferraris, Jaguars, Maseratis and Mercedes-Benz cars and finished second four times in the Formula One (F1) Drivers World Championships. For additional information on Moss, visit www.stirlingmoss.com.

McCluggage, who is originally from El Dorado, Kansas, began her racing career in 1954 while she was working for the New York Herald Times as a sports writer. She won a Grand Touring (GT) class race at Sebring in 1961 and the Monte Carlo Rally GT class in 1964. She is widely considered as a pioneer of equality for women in both motorsports and journalism. McCluggage helped in the creation of Competition Press, which is now known as Auto Week. For additional information on McCluggage, visit www.denisemccluggage.com.

Moss and McCluggage raced against each other in the 1950s and 1960s.

Both are in Kansas City for the seventh annual Art of the Car Concours on June 23 at the Kansas City Art Institute. For more information on the Art of the Car Concours, visit www.artofthecarconcours.com.

Photo opportunities are available with the following cars that will be on display at the Art of the Car Concours: 1934 MG, 1957 Ferrari 250 GT, 1965 Ferrari, 1965 Porsche GTS 904 Carrera Coupe, 1966 Ford Lotus/Cortina and the D type Jaguar.

The event at Kansas Speedway is closed to the public and it is appreciated that you don’t publish this information.
