2013 Michigan: Mike Wallace NASCAR Nationwide Race Preview

Mike Wallace has logged more than 3,000 miles of racing on Michigan International Speedway’s two-mile surface. He probably knows the track as well as any other NASCAR racer.

In Saturday’s Alliance Truck Parts 250, Wallace will be shooting to improve his standing of 17th in the Nationwide Series point standings on one of the fastest tracks in NASCAR.

“Michigan is a great race track because of its multi-grooves and high speeds,” Wallace said. “It almost always turns into a fuel-mileage race at some time during the race.”

Originally planned to be built closer to Detroit, MIS is located west of the Motor City in the placid countryside of an area known as the Irish Hills. Although it’s known as the “home” track of the automobile manufacturers based in the Detroit area, MIS sort of exists in its own little world.

“It’s like a ‘field of dreams’ because it’s located right in the middle of somewhere and nowhere,” Wallace said.

The veteran Missouri driver has one top-10 finish in 14 Nationwide races at Michigan.

The JD Motorsports with Gary Keller No. 01 Chevrolet will run this weekend without sponsorship. “We have a great package for the right company,” Wallace said. “This team does a lot with a little. It’s a good fit for a company wanting to roll with the right team.”

THE RACE: 250 miles, 125 laps, race 13 of the Nationwide Series season
