G.O.A.T. (GREATEST OF ALL TIME) CHATTER
“Broc (Tickle) is coming back east for a month so we’ll be riding and working on some things. At the end of the day, it’s up to Broc when the gate drops. The start situation is just in his head. We know the bike is good. If the bike wasn’t good he wouldn’t be running up front in practice. It’s frustrating. We’re going to work on it.

Ram/RCH Racing Quotes
BROC TICKLE (No. 20 Ram/Sycuan Casino/RCH Racing/Suzuki RM-Z450)
YOU FINISHED SECOND AT BUDDS CREEK LAST YEAR SO YOU MUST BE LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO THAT RACE TRACK. “Yeah for sure. I really like the track there in Maryland and always seem to do pretty well there. Like last year, I had the best result I’ve ever had in outdoors so that was awesome. I just enjoy the track. The track is fun. The dirt’s good. It has a variety of obstacles on the track, a lot off-cambers and some big rolling singles. It normally gets some pretty big ruts and some vaults. I think it’s got a good variety of things and I feel like I can get a flow there really easy, like it comes natural. That’s why I enjoy riding there.”

YOU HAVE BACK-TO-BACK, TOP-10 FINISHES AND NOW YOU’RE GOING TO BUDDS CREEK. THE TIMING COULDN’T BE BETTER. “Exactly. I have some momentum built up from the last few races. For us, it’s just to get better and get some good starts. I’m going to be at Ricky’s (Carmichael) farm for a month and we’re going to work on starts and work on some speed. That way we can get better each week.”

WAS THE OFF WEEK A GOOD BREAK OR, BECAUSE YOU HAVE THIS MOMENTUM, WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE RACED? “I would like to have raced last weekend but I’m kind of glad I’m heading down to Florida (Carmichael’s farm). That gives me some time to get comfortable down there before the next race and get in some good riding. With the circumstances of me going down to Florida, I think it’s the perfect plan and Budds Creek should be a really good race.”

RICKY CARMICHAEL (Co-owner, RCH Racing)
WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ON ROUND 4 AT HIGHT POINT? “We got a top 10 at High Point and that was a good sign – Broc’s second consecutive overall top 10 finish. We’re making some progress. Broc’s coming back east for a month so we’ll be riding and working on some things. At the end of the day, it’s up to Broc (Tickle) when the gate drops.”

BROC HAD A GREAT TIMED QUALIFYING EFFORT AND THIRD GATE PICK FOR THE FIRST MOTO AT HIGH POINT BUT STRUGGELD AGAIN WHEN THE GATE DROPPED. ARE HIS RACE START STRUGGLES SIMPLY MENTAL AT THIS POINT? “The start situation is just in his head. We know the bike is good. If the bike wasn’t good he wouldn’t be running up front in practice. It’s frustrating. We’re going to work on it.”

SO WHEN YOU AND BROC TEST TOGETHER, DO YOU SUIT UP AND BECOME THE COMPETITIVE RIDER AGAIN LIKE YOU WERE WHEN YOU COMPETED? “For sure. Absolutely. We make progress during the week but don’t execute at the race track. We’re going to work really hard. I’m going to push him and help him get better. He’s talented. He just hasn’t put it together on race day. That’s the struggle that I have as a race owner – not being able to go do it myself again on the bike. Broc works hard. We just have to parlay all the positive strides we make during the week into the motos on Saturday.”

HOW DIFFICULT IS IT FOR A RIDER TO LOSE SO MANY POSITIONS WHEN THE GATE DROPS AND FIGHT THROUGH THE FIELD? “It’s really hard. You’re losing so much track position the first five laps that once you get past a bunch of people you have to pass, you’ve lost so much track position that you have to ride two or three seconds faster than the leaders to catch them and that’s just not going to happen.

“The field is so tough this year but Broc is better than his results are showing. He needs to get off the gate and it’s up to him right now. Broc’s making the right moves staying back east for several weeks trying to get a grip on it and put the time in. The bottom line is that you can’t start 18th and expect good results. His average position after the first lap is 18th and that has to improve. We’ll work our butts off when we ride here and try to get him back up where he belongs.”
