“I think that Broc has realized his capability and how good he can ride. Last week was a huge improvement and that’s where he needs to be, bottom line. He came to my farm to start riding and he’s showing a lot of improvement. He needs to back-up the last few performances every weekend.

“Southwick is a man’s track. You don’t have to focus on the speed as much…the corner speed…because it’s a strong man’s track. The stronger you are the better that you can be. You better man-up at Southwick. Guys will get gassed and you have to be able to pounce on them when the opportunity comes.”
-- Ricky Carmichael

RAM TRUCK/RCH RACING QUOTES
BROC TICKLE (No. 20 Ram/Sycuan Casino/RCH Racing/Suzuki RM-Z450)
YOU SCORED A PODIUM FINISH LAST YEAR AT SOUTHWICK SO YOU MUST BE OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THIS WEEKEND. “I like Southwick. I grew up riding in sand quite a bit. It’s another race that can be demanding physically. Even at Budds (Creek) I felt really, really good at the end of the second Moto and it seemed like a lot of guys were dropping off the pace a little bit there at the end Moto. I’m looking forward to it.

“I had a good week last week, a good weekend at Budds and had a good day Monday. Everything has been going great. Riding has been going good, training has been going good. I’m looking forward to Tuesday to get some good riding in and then tomorrow I have a little rest day. I’m just going to try to put two good Motos together. Like Budds it was awesome to get a fifth (finish in second Moto) but it’d be good to be able to do it twice.”

IS THE TRACK AT SOUTHWICK MORE SANDY THAN OTHERS? “It’s actually pretty much all sand. It kind of has a little bit of a hard base because they’ve been racing there for so long and the sand has been washed away a little bit but still pretty much the whole track is pretty much sand. And honestly there’s only like two or three jumps that you actually get air off of. It gets really rough and they don’t really work on the track too much and clean it up. It seems to be good for me because a lot of guys get tired there especially at the end of the second Moto. If it’s hot outside it makes them drop off. I felt awesome this weekend. My second Moto I felt really strong to the last lap. That was good for my confidence. It was just cool to have the whole team pumped and myself happy with the way I rode.”

DOES THE SANDY SURFACE MAKE IT MORE PHYSICALLY DEMANDING ON THE RIDERS? “You almost have to ride a lot smarter to go fast. You have a kind of different riding style and you’ve got to set everything up where you’re not just running straight into the sand berm and losing all your momentum so the sand is sand is all about keeping your momentum up but in the sand it seems to be a lot more noticeable. Obviously if it you can stay out of the huge sand then that will keep your momentum up.”

YOU HAVE GAINED AT LEAST ONE POSITION IN THE RIDER STANDINGS IN EACH OF THE LAST THREE RACES. “That’s one thing that I always seem to do is get a little bit better as the season goes. It always seems like I have two decent Moto finishes where I get some points and that way I don’t lose too much if I do have a bad weekend. For us it’s to build on the second Moto from Budds and try to duplicate and try to get better.”

RICKY CARMICHAEL (Co-owner, RCH Racing)
BROC SEEMS TO BE HITTING HIS STRIDE THE LAST THREE RACES: “I think that Broc has realized his capability and how good he can ride. Last week was a huge improvement and that’s where he needs to be, bottom line. He came to my farm to start riding and he’s showing a lot of improvement. He needs to back-up the last few performances every weekend.”

IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIFIC IN-RACE THAT HE’S DOING DIFFERENT TO GET BETTER RESULTS? “He’s just bringing a higher level of intensity to the track. If you watch the top-two guys (Villopoto and Dungey) that are winning every weekend, every time they’re on their bike the intensity is up. You have to bring the intensity to the track every race.”

HAVE YOU MADE ANY SPECIFIC CHANGES TO THE SUZUKI? “We made some changes to the Suzuki – a little engine change and a gearing change last week. I’m happy with where the bike is right now.”

TALK ABOUT SOUTHWICK: “Southwick is a man’s track. You don’t have to focus on the speed as much…the corner speed…because it’s a strong man’s track. The stronger you are the better that you can be. You better man-up at Southwick. Guys will get gassed and you have to be able to pounce on them when the opportunity comes."
