Bobby Labonte Racing and Pearson Jr. Win at Wythe

Bobby Labonte Racing (BLR) started its three-race weekend in Swainsboro, Ga. The team had a rough weekend previously at Magnolia Motor Speedway, where a flat tire before the feature started put the No. 44 starting at the back. Earl Pearson Jr. was never able to gain momentum and move forward. Pearson Jr. and the team were ready to make huge improvements in the next three races.

Pearson Jr. set fast time and won his respective heat Thursday night at Swainsboro Raceway. He started second in the feature but took the lead early on and led 32 laps until Dennis Erb Jr. passed on the high side and went on to win the feature followed by Pearson Jr. in second.

"We really wanted to win this race tonight," said Pearson Jr. "I had a lot of friends and family here that drove up from Florida to watch the team race. We had a strong car all night."

The BLR team headed to Cherokee Speedway for Friday night's Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series (LODLMS) race. Kevin Rumley and Steve Shaver with the No. 6 Longhorn chassis joined the BLR team at Cherokee Speedway. In preliminary action, Shaver set fast time for Group A. Pearson Jr. started seventh in the feature and Shaver started 20th. The track was tough to race and pass on, which caused both drivers to have a tough time to gain forward momentum. Pearson Jr. finished in seventh place and Shaver in 21st.

Both the BLR and No. 6 teams packed up and headed to Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va., on Saturday night. Justin Labonte in his No. 44 Longhorn joined Pearson Jr. and Shaver at Wythe Raceway. Pearson Jr. won Heat 3 which gave him a third-place start in the feature. Shaver started ninth and Labonte 16th in the feature. John Blankenship and Pearson Jr. battled for the lead in the final eight laps. Pearson Jr. was able to pull away from Blankenship on the final lap of the race to take the checkered flag. "The Hurricane" put the No. 44 Lucas Oil Longhorn Chassis back in Victory Lane, with Shaver finishing third and Labonte in 21st.

"I have to thank all the fans," said Pearson Jr. "I think we put on a great show for them tonight. I appreciate John racing me tough. I didn't think I was going to get around him but I found a different line and went with it. I'd like to thank Lucas Oil and all my sponsors. I'm excited to be back in Victory Lane with the No. 44 Bobby Labonte Racing Longhorn Chevrolet."

The win was Pearson Jr.'s second of the 2013 season and 26th for his career. Pearson Jr. is sixth in Lucas Oil Championship Points, only 225 points away from leader Jimmy Owens. The BLR team will take the week off to prepare for the next couple weeks. It will be back in action July 3 and 4 in Ohio.
