2013 NHRA: B.R.A.K.E.S. Announces Teen Pro-Active Driving Schools For Pomona

2013 NHRA: B.R.A.K.E.S. Announces Teen Pro-Active Driving Schools For Pomona

One of the country’s most successful driving schools for teenage motorists and their parents, the Teen-Pro Active Driving School offered by B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe), has announced new morning and afternoon sessions at the legendary Fairplex in Pomona, CA in August, November and December of this year.

On Saturday and Sunday, August 3rd and 4th, the B.R.A.K.E.S. team of professional instructors will conduct the comprehensive driving class that is devoted to teaching teenagers greater focus and concentration while in the driver’s seat along with life-saving car control techniques in a variety of challenging situations. The school is open to those between the ages of 15 and 19 years of age who hold a valid driving permit or license, and who have at least 30 hours of behind the wheel experience.

B.R.A.K.E.S returns to Pomona on the weekend of November 30th-December 1st to once again offer this remarkably effective program. As always, the Teen Pro-Active Driving School is provided free of charge. Parents of teens enrolled in the school are required to attend the sessions to witness, first hand, the B.R.A.K.E.S. classroom instruction, observe the demanding driving exercises, and have the opportunity to drive with a professional B.R.A.K.E.S. instructor themselves.

B.R.A.K.E.S. founder Doug Herbert, a four-time IHRA Top Fuel champion and 10-time NHRA national event titlist, lost his two young sons, Jon and James, in a devastating accident in 2008, resulting in the creation of this non-profit 501 (c)3 organization which has now seen nearly 10,000 teenagers complete the Teen-Pro Active Driving School.

“Bringing our school to Pomona is exciting for two reasons,” says Herbert, whose late father, Chet, was a drag racing and hot rodding pioneer. “I’ve raced at the Fairplex throughout my career and won the NHRA’s 50th Anniversary Nationals there in 2001, so it’s a very special place to me.

“Secondly, Southern California is a very intimidating environment that teenage drivers find themselves in and getting distracted on the many freeways and boulevards crisscrossing the area happens too frequently. Kids that go through our school will learn the kinds of awareness and mental discipline that can help keep them out of dangerous situations and teach them important car control skills for avoiding disaster when the unexpected happens.”

Registration for the Teen Pro-Active Driving School is required and can be completed at www.putonthebrakes.org
