“Countdown To The 20th Running At The Brickyard” NASCAR Number: Day 4


On Sunday, July 28, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will celebrate a special milestone – the 20th premier series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (1 p.m. ET on ESPN, IMS Network Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio). To commemorate the milestone, starting Tuesday, July 2, 2013, and continuing each weekday through Friday, July 26, the NASCAR Wire Service will feature a special “Countdown To The 20th Running At The Brickyard” NASCAR Number. Today’s number highlights the 1997 race, won by Ricky Rudd. For more content on the “Countdown To The 20th Running At The Brickyard,” visit NASCARMedia.com.

.183: In seconds, the margin of victory of the 1997 Brickyard 400 – the closest in the event’s history. Leading the final 14 laps, Ricky Rudd narrowly edged Bobby Labonte to the stripe to win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 3, 1997. It was Rudd’s second victory of the 1997 season, and 19th overall. Rudd, who holds the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series record for consecutive starts (788), finished his career with 23 wins.
