Countdown To The 20th Running At The Brickyard NASCAR Number: Day 5


On Sunday, July 28, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will celebrate a special milestone – the 20th premier series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (1 p.m. ET on ESPN, IMS Network Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio). To commemorate the milestone, starting Tuesday, July 2, 2013, and continuing each weekday through Friday, July 26, the NASCAR Wire Service will feature a special “Countdown To The 20th Running At The Brickyard” NASCAR Number. Today’s number highlights the 1998 race, won by Jeff Gordon. For more content on the “Countdown To The 20th Running At The Brickyard,” visit NASCARMedia.com.

3: That’s the starting position of three different Brickyard 400 winners, making it the most prolific starting spot in the event’s history. Jeff Gordon’s first two Indianapolis Motor Speedway wins, in 1994 and ’98, each came after starting third, as did Bobby Labonte’s win in 2000. As for the highest and lowest starting spots of the eventual winner: Two drivers have won from the Coors Light Pole (Kevin Harvick in 2003; Jimmie Johnson in 2008), while Jeff Gordon’s 2001 victory came from the 27th starting spot.
