'Countdown To The 20th Running At The Brickyard' NASCAR Number: Day 7


On Sunday, July 28, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will celebrate a special milestone – the 20th premier series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (1 p.m. ET on ESPN, IMS Network Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio). To commemorate the milestone, starting Tuesday, July 2, 2013, and continuing each weekday through Friday, July 26, the NASCAR Wire Service will feature a special “Countdown To The 20th Running At The Brickyard” NASCAR Number. 8: The winner of the Brickyard 400 has gone on to win that year’s series championship eight times, including in 2000 when Bobby Labonte won driving the No. 18 for Joe Gibbs Racing. Labonte’s victory preceded his 2000 series championship in which he defeated second-place Dale Earnhardt by 265 points. Other Brickyard winners who followed up the victory with a series championship: Jeff Gordon (1998 and 2001), Dale Jarrett (1999), Tony Stewart (2005) and Jimmie Johnson (2006, ’08 and ’09).
