Briscoe Injured, Munoz to Sub in for Honda Indy Toronto Race

By Brad Gerhart

Carlos Munoz, who won the rookie of the year award at this year's Indianapolis 500, with a second place finish will sub in for Ryan Briscoe of Panther Racing for the second Honda Indy Toronto race. Briscoe suffered a broken wrist in a lap 65 incident with Justin Wilson and Charlie Kimball. Replays showed Briscoe’s fingers on the steering wheel as it violently spun around after the contact. The IndyCar safety team quickly iced down the wrist, on track, Briscoelater proceeded to the hospital where he recived the news.

The expected recovery time for the injury is estimated to be around three weeks. Briscoe stated he will attempt to be back on track with the Panther Racing team for the Mid-Ohio race on August 4th. But in all likelihood Briscoe won’t be in his full-time ALMS Ride at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park next weekend.

A replace for him there should be announced later in the week.

If Briscoe’s injury forces him out of the Mid-Ohio race, Oriol Servia may be in the car for that race weekend. Munoz has yet to race a road or street course in the IZOD IndyCar Series, he currenly leads the Firestone Indy Lights championship.
