Rouse Storms To Win Number Six At Brands Hatch

CHRISSY Rouse notched up his sixth win of the season in today’s Triumph Triple Challenge race at Brands Hatch.

The Stratstone Triumph Racing rider was back on the top step of the podium after the 10-lap race of the GP Circuit, following his third place finish in Friday’s race on the Indy track.

As a result he has boosted his title lead to 59 points, which was what he was hoping to achieve today before the championship points are halved ahead of the remainder of the season.

The 17-year-old from Burnopfield near Newcastle-Upon-Tyne started today’s race from second on the grid and got a clean getaway. Despite dropping a handful of places at the start, he soon began to claw them back, passing

Charlie King for third at the end of the opening lap.

Up front polesitter Dan Helyer and Spain’s Aleix Aulestia were already getting away, but the Geordie teenager caught them up within a lap. Just as he was poised to make a move the Safety Car was deployed to deal with an incident further back, staying out for three laps.

As the race got back underway at the start of Lap Five, Aulestia and Helyer were locked in a battle at the front while Rouse kept a watching brief close behind. At the start of Lap Six he passed both of them at Paddock Hill to take the lead.

From here he showed the pack a clean pair of heels as he stormed off in the lead, never coming under any serious pressure. Although King looked to be catching him in the closing two laps he never got close enough, and in the end he came under pressure from Aulestia who passed him on the final lap to take second place.

“That was a great race and the perfect result,” said a delighted Rouse. “I enjoyed every minute of it. I was hungry for it after Friday.

“I love the GP circuit, I always have done and today the bike felt great and I was really comfortable all the way. I didn’t make any mistakes and I felt like I was able to control the race.

“It was the result I wanted after finishing third on Friday. To be honest, getting the third was a bit of a weird feeling. When it’s your lowest result of the year it gives you a bit of a wake-up call so I was really fired up for this race.

“It’s the perfect result and I’m really happy. It means we are in a really good position now for when the points are halved as we will still have more than a 25 point lead which is what we wanted.”

Rouse and the Triumph Triple Challenge pack now have a six week break until the next race which will be held at Cadwell Park over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
