Stewart Takes Motorcycle-Superstore.com Holeshot Lead; Hahn Tightens Grip On 250cc

The lead in the 450cc class' Motorcycle-Superstore.com Holeshot Championship changed hands twice on Saturday at the Red Bull Spring Creek National with James Stewart walking away with a one-point lead over Justin Barcia at the end of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship event.

"Taking the holeshot today along with finishing first (overall) was just so special," said Stewart, rider of the Yoshimura Suzuki. "I love this track and I had to work hard to get that holeshot. I'm happy with my starts and how I've been finishing, especially with today's podium here."

Stewart and Barcia went into Saturday's race tied atop the Holeshot standings with seven points each. Barcia won the holeshot in Moto 1 to earn one point on the Team Honda/Muscle Milk bike, taking the lead for an hour or so before Stewart earned two points and the lead in Moto 2.

"Strong starts have been great for me," Barcia said. "I just want to keep getting those strong starts, not only for the chance to win the money at the end and the points lead but also to get and stay in front of the pack for the race."

On the 250cc side, GEICO Honda's Wil Hahn continued his dominance off the starting line. He swept both of Saturday's motos and now has holeshots in seven of the last 10 motos.

"I feel great about my holeshot finishes, and I'm excited to be so far ahead in points now to get that holeshot money in the end," Hahn said. "My goal every moto is to just come out here, stay focused, and have that great reaction time to get out in front of everyone.

"Getting on the podium is my ultimate goal, but taking the holeshots and staying consistent in that is a big accomplishment for me."

Points for the Motorcycle Superstore Holeshot Championship are earned in every moto in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. The first moto is worth one point, the second moto awards two points, and any rider who takes both holeshots at the same race receives a bonus point. At the end of the year, the top rider in the 450cc class will be paid $25,000 while the best 250cc rider gets $15,000.
