In 1994, the NASCAR Sprint Cup series started racing at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, since then it has become one of the diamonds on the circuit as it is exceptional in every way. The Brickyard's facilities are exceptional, its history is exceptional, and its crowds are exceptional. Despite those who point to empty seating at the gigantic facility, the 2.5-mile oval typically hosts the third largest racing audience in the United States each year - just behind the Indianapolis 500, and Daytona 500.

As exciting as yesterday's qualifying was, we've got some bad news for Ryan Newman. The Brickyard 400 pole winner has won just twice in 19 tries. But, the good news is that the pole winner has finished in the top five in nine of 19 races. Newman has roughly a 50/50 chance of a top-five run today.

So unfortunately, we don't expect Newman to win today. In fact, the rule at Indianapolis is... Never bet on the pole-sitter.

So who is the best at the Brickyard ?

How about Jeff Gordon ? Mr. Brickyard has four wins, 11 top fives and 15 top tens in his 19 races at IMS. Today Gordon will start 9th, but he just five total wins in the last 5 seasons.

Today is a far different era from when Gordon was a dominating driver, although... he did finish second in 2011's affair.

So, that leaves us two Brickyard specialists: Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart. The six of the last eight visits to the Indy bricks have been won by these two men (Johnson 2012, 2009, 2008 & 2006, Stewart 2007 & 2005). But despite the recent success, those four wins are Johnson's only top-fives are the track.

For Tony Stewart, 14 races at Indianapolis, 'Smoke' has 6 top-fives. What's interesting in that five of those top-fives have come when he has started 14th or worse. Last year, Stewart started 28th and finished 10th. Today, he'll start 5th, his best start since he took Pole in 2002.

Given his success, we are picking Jimmie Johnson for the his fifth win of the season! But keep an eye on 3-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart.

So enjoy the 2013 Brickyard 400 from Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana. The NASCAR Sprint Cup series visits the infamous venue just once a year, and its always an interesting race!
