Matt Tifft; Win-Tron Racing Stoked To Return To Iowa Speedway

If there’s one NASCAR K&N Pro Series East driver that is looking forward to Iowa Speedway more than anyone else, you might want to talk with Matt Tifft.

In fact, it was June’s Casey’s Dollar General Stores 150 at the 0.875-mile paved oval where the teenager and his Win-Tron Racing emerged from their shell and proved to the other teams on the circuit that they have what it takes.

The race, held nearly two months, ago also marked the debut of long-time Win-Tron Racing crew member, Mike Chaffee, who assumed the role as crew chief of the No. 89 DOC 360 Chevrolet Impala. On that night, the team registered their second top-10 finish of the season, but more importantly gave the rookie driver some much needed confidence behind the wheel.

Since then, the team has quickly risen into form. Unloading strong and running competitive, the team has rightfully earned the opportunity to contend for wins. Now, they just need all the components that fuse together to seal the deal.

In the most recent NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event at Columbus Motor Speedway, Win-Tron Racing was a team that everyone was chatting about in the garage paddock. With the team blossoming a time into the top-five in the first practice session, Tifft and company went to the top of the speed charts in final practice, before landing third quickest overall in qualifying.

During the race, Tifft was in position to record his career-best finish in just his seventh career start, but the freshman driver found himself as a victim in another competitor’s misfortune, thus resulting in a 16th place finish. Still, the performance was a clear indicator of what the DOC 360 team is truly capable of for not only Friday night’s Pork Be Inspired 150 at Iowa Speedway, but for the remainder of the season.

“I’m very excited to go back to Iowa Speedway this weekend,” said Tifft. “We really found something in the race there that I feel will be very successful in our return there. I definitely believe we can have an even stronger run on Friday night knowing our cars have improved even more and our performances are stronger since the last time we raced there. I’ve been really looking forward to this race for a while now.”

While, the Hinckley, Ohio native knows that it takes a total team effort to go fast and ultimately reach victory lane, he’s also stated that the leadership and knowledge of Chaffee has raised this relatively new NASCAR K&N Pro Series team to another level, quickly.

“Chaffee has been unbelievable in the way he has been able to help and rally our team,” sounded the 17-year old protégé. “He is a true veteran crew chief with a ton of knowledge. He really brings a lot to the table and has really assisted our team in the last few races.”

In search of their fourth top-10 run of the year, the Buckeye native has made it clear that he feels that his team is capable of more.

“I think we’ve accomplished everything except for a top-five and a win, so obviously those are next on the checklist and hopefully we can move closer in that direction on Friday night.”

For Win-Tron Racing, owned by former racers Kevin Cywinski and Nate Thiesse, the expansion to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East tour opens the door for the team to continue and enhance their on-track product. The team will work vigorously with Tifft as part of their driver development platform. Currently, the team is second in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards championship chase with driver Mason Mingus.

“Everyone is extremely upbeat about returning to Iowa Speedway this weekend,” said Thiesse. “Matt has really done a great job over the last couple of races and Columbus was a turning point for us. We didn’t get the finish we wanted, but the performance was an indicator of the type of talent Matt really has. We’re hoping for a good showing on Friday night.”

Before turning his attention to Iowa Speedway, Tifft participated in his second career ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards start at New Jersey Motorsports Park. After qualifying 12th, Tifft found himself in the hunt for back-to-back top-10 finishes, however a right rear flat with four laps remaining flattened any hopes. Instead, he would be credited with a 14th place finish.

The Pork Be Inspired 150 (131.25 miles / 150 laps) is set for Friday night, August 2, The 150-lap feature will lift off shortly after 8:00 p.m. (Central). The race will be tape-delayed on FOX Sports 1 with an air date of Sunday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern).
