Nunez Looks For Fourth Win, Heads To Kansas Speedway

There will be no time for school supplies shopping for 17-year-old Tristan Nunez as he comes off a double-header weekend where he claimed a victory in the Rolex GRAND-AM Series only to head Kansas Speedway this weekend. The Floridian is looking for his fourth win of the 2013 season.

"Kansas is yet another track I haven't been to yet, but I've heard it is an easy track to learn so I'm not to worried about that but what is going to be interesting is the fact that this will be a night race," said Nunez. "I haven't raced in the night since the 12 Hours of Sebring and this will be a first in the mazda6! I'm extremely excited to get out there in the Visit Florida SpeedSource Mazda."

Nunez, of Boca Raton, Fla., comes off double duty this past weekend at Road America where he raced in both the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and GRAND-AM. The weekend ended in success for the teen driver. Nunez secured his third victory in GRAND-AM with co-drive Joel Miller for VisitFlorida/Mazda/SpeedSource after starting second. In the ALMS race, Nunez battled with yellow flags at the balance of the race, but he still managed to pull out a fifth place finish with co-driver Charlie Shears for Performance Tech Motorsports.

This weekend Nunez will be able to focus on just one race, which will help carry him to another potential podium result. The success of last weekend will hopefully carry over for the Visit Florida driver as he searches for his fourth GRAND-AM win of the season. Nunez currently sits fourth in points in the GRAND-AM series with his co-drive Joel Miller sitting in second place.

Kansas Speedway is a 2.370 mile, 6-turn speedway road course, which is still a fairy new track for GRAND-AM. GRAND-AM road racing teams took to the new infield road course for the first time in 2012. With the season in the home stretch, every point counts for the driver as he tries to make a top three finish on the season.

The events this weekend will kick off with practice on Fri., Aug. 16 at 1:00 p.m. CT with qualifying to follow at 9:25 p.m. CT. The race will be on Sat., Aug. 17 at 7:00 p.m. CT and shown live on FOX Sports 2.
