2013 Bowmanville: Mike Skeen NASCAR Truck Race Preview

This Week's Hawk Performance Chevrolet at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park... Mike Skeen will pilot chassis No. 133 from the Sharp-Gallaher Racing stable in Sunday's Chevrolet Silverado 250 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The 64-lap event marks the first appearance of this Silverado in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series as a road-course entry. Prior to being retrofitted from an oval-track entry, this truck was last seen on track at Eldora Speedway where Max Gresham started 14th and finished 10th. Gresham also drove this truck to an 11th-place finish at Martinsville Speedway in October 2012.

Skeen in NASCAR... The Chevrolet Silverado 250 marks Skeen's debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He has one previous start in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at Tooele, Utah's Miller Motorsports Park, where he started fifth and finished in the 17th position.

Skeen at CTMP... Skeen claimed the pole position and won the last four consecutive races in the Pirelli World Challenge GT Series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Skeen in World Challenge GT Series... In the Sunday, Aug. 25 World Challenge GT Series event at Sonoma, Skeen took the checkered flag in the second position behind the wheel of the No. 2 CRP Chevrolet Corvette; however, series officials stopped scoring him at Lap 18 for failure to serve a drive-through penalty on the first lap. Skeen was eventually relegated to an 11th-place finish. Skeen ranks sixth in the 2013 driver championship point standings on the strength of one win (Lime Rock Park) and podium finishes at Long Beach and Toronto.

A Little More About Skeen... Skeen currently drives the Hawk Performance/CRP Racing Corvette in World Challenge in addition to being a sought-out professional driving instructor. He began racing go karts at the age of 10, progressing through the motorsports ranks, and has victories to his name in the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge GT Series, Trans-Am, SCORE Baja 1000, NASA, as well as experience in GRAND-AM and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series.

Bryan Berry Heads the No. 6 SGR Team...Veteran crew chief Bryan Berry joins SGR to lead the No. 6 team. Since 2000, Berry has over 200 starts as a crew chief in the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series, working mostly with veteran drivers Brendan Gaughan and Jason Keller.

Mike Skeen Quotes:
On making his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut with Sharp-Gallaher Racing... "I'm excited to make my NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut with Sharp-Gallaher Racing. SGR puts strong trucks on the track and I feel that with my road-course experience, we'll be able to put the No. 6 Hawk Performance Chevrolet in contention for the win."

On returning to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park... "I'm looking forward to racing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park again. We swept the pole positions and wins here in 2011 and 2012 in our Chevrolet Corvette in the World Challenge GT Series. Fortunately NASCAR is allotting us a lot of practice time to get used to the course. I'll be taking that time to adjust to driving the Hawk Performance Silverado. My SGR teammate Max Gresham and I had a good test session at Kershaw (Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, S.C.) to get ready for this weekend's race. It will be a team effort this weekend as I lean on him for advice on the truck, and hopefully I can help him in his first road-course race."
