We Meet Again, Top-10: Following his finish in the GoPro Grand Prix at Sonoma Raceway, Kimball moved from a tie for seventh position to 10th in the IZOD IndyCar Series point standings with 335 markers, -144 points behind leader Helio Castroneves. Kimball has now been in the top-10 of IZOD IndyCar Series point standings five times this season and has spent six of the 15 rounds there in 2013.

Rookie Class: In Kimball’s rookie year of 2011, he was one of six drivers to have full-time rides including James Hinchcliffe, JR Hildebrand, Ana Beatriz, James Jakes and Sebastian Saavedra. Of the six rookies to enter the series that season, Charlie and Hinchcliffe are the only two drivers to have claimed their first career win, both doing so this season.

First-Timers: Of the 10 drivers to win races in the IZOD IndyCar Series this year, four have been first-time winners. With Kimball’s recent win at Mid-Ohio, he joins fellow drivers James Hinchcliffe, Takuma Sato and Simon Pagenaud in taking their first career victory in 2013.

Race Leader: Following the result at Sonoma Raceway, Kimball is now tied for third with fellow drivers Castroneves, Dixon, Hinchcliffe, Tony Kanaan and Marco Andretti for total races led in 2013, at five rounds led each. Will Power sits in first with 11 total races led and defending Series Champion Ryan Hunter-Reay in second with nine.

Lap Leader: At Mid-Ohio, Kimball led for just over half of the 90-lap race (46 laps in total) which marked the fourth time he has led laps on a street/road course and the sixth time he has led laps in his IZOD IndyCar Series career. Of the five times he has led laps this season, Kimball has accumulated a total of 58 laps led, while he only led laps in one race in 2012 for a total of three laps.

Three in the Top-10: Sonoma marked the second consecutive weekend all three team Ganassi drivers ended a round in the top-10 in points this season. Dixon holds second (-39), Franchitti remains in sixth (-100) and Kimball moves to 10th (-144). Castroneves leads with 479.

Fast 3: Kimball and teammates Dixon and Franchitti have all three made it to the Firestone Fast Six of qualifying at the same time in the last two rounds of the IZOD IndyCar Series (Mid-Ohio, Sonoma).

Say My Name: When Kimball claimed his recent victory at Mid-Ohio, he became the first and only “Charlie” to win a race in the history of Indy car. There has been a driver named “Chuck” who and was series champion in 1952, and who last won in 1954, and four other drivers named "Charles" to claim wins the last of which came at Milwaukee in 1947.

Honda Sweeps: Of Honda’s seven wins this year, four have included podium sweeps. These four races included, Long Beach, Race 2 of the Dual in Detroit and Pocono with the latest being Kimball’s win at Mid-Ohio in Round 14 with Pagenaud and Franchitti completing the sweep.

Honda Power: Following the result at Sonoma Raceway, Honda is now second in the manufacturer point standings with 111 points, trailing Chevrolet with 114.

Sonoma Ratings: The GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma was the most-watched IZOD IndyCar Series race on NBC Sports Network this season. Viewership was up 27 percent over the August 2012 race. NBCSN has coverage of the Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT this weekend, as well as the three remaining races on the 2013 schedule.

Charlie Kimball and No. 83 Novo Nordisk Team

Road-Course Warrior: The IZOD IndyCar Series has completed all-three road courses on schedule this season, Barber Motorsports Park, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Sonoma Raceway. Of the three races at these tracks, Kimball has paired and average start of 5.3 with an average finish of 8.3, led 49 total laps, posted two top-fives and one win. Kimball qualified in the Firestone Fast Six at all three permanent road courses this season.

Street Stats: The IZOD IndyCar Series has visited seven street courses so far this season. Of the seven races at these tracks, Kimball has paired and average start of 16.3 with an average finish of 13.0, led five total laps and scored three top-10 finishes.

Sonoma Race Rewind: Kimball finished 20th in Round 15 in the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sonoma Raceway. For the start of the 85-lap race, the Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing team lined up from the outside of row three in sixth position. On the opening lap of the 2.385-mile course, Kimball was taken off course in an incident where the No. 83 car went into anti-stall mode and stopped in Turn 2. Kimball then restarted the NovoLog FlexPen car and headed to pit lane to top-off on fuel, where he continued one-lap down and in 24th position. Through the course of the first 16-laps on the 12-turn road course, the Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing team would battle through the middle of the field in 24th position and waited for its chance to return to the lead lap. Kimball got his lap back on lap 17 when several cars went for their first pit stops of the race under the yellow flag. Kimball made his way from 24th position to 11th, ready to reposition himself in the top-10 in the final laps. With only eight laps remaining, No. 83 was involved in a second incident, when the No. 4 car dive-bombed three cars and took out the No. 83 in the process of not making the corner. The No. 4 car was eventually issued a drive-through penalty for avoidable contact. Due to the late incident, Kimball came to pit lane for a new front wing and exited as the sole car on his lap in 22nd position. On the race’s final caution occurring on lap 79, Kimball advanced two positions and crossed the line in 20th.

Last Time at Baltimore: Last season, Kimball finished 21st in the Baltimore Grand Prix. After running near the top of the speed charts and finishing seventh in the qualifying session, the No. 83 NovoLog FlexPen car would endure a 10-grid spot penalty when the car lost drive, causing the team to change its engine before reaching the minimum change-out mileage specified by INDYCAR. With the penalty, and a race that began with rain, the Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing team started 17th and used pit stops and tire strategy to make up ground on the field. The team withstood incidents that caused a total of nine cautions totaling 24 laps on the on the 2.4-mile, 13-turn street course. The No. 83 worked its way from 17th to third by lap 36 and second position by lap 40 the 75-lap race. As the No. 83 held position near the top of the charts, the car lost drive on lap 65 causing the No. 83 to retire from the race with 10-laps remaining and taking Kimball from ninth position to 18th.

Kimball on Baltimore: "I'm looking forward to Baltimore this weekend. Last year the Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing team had a really good race there. The streets of Baltimore and the Baltimore Grand Prix always put on a great event and the fans are fantastic. It's nice to be able to run downtown in such an incredible metropolis. It's a great opportunity for the No. 83 NovoLog FlexPen car and the whole team to bounce back from a tough result at Sonoma Raceway. I think we had a very good performance but not the result we wanted as a team. We're looking forward to getting back at it, and hopefully doing anything we can to help Scott Dixon in his championship fight, as well as Honda in their manufacturers' championship quest."
