Talladega Superspeedway and Chase Driver Greg Biffle in Birmingham for Empowerment Week

With NASCAR driver Greg Biffle in town as part of the kickoff to "Empowerment Week," Talladega Superspeedway announced today an exclusive ticket offer to all Birmingham First Responders for the Oct. 20 Camping World RV Sales 500 that will benefit two incredible charitable organizations - and the track will kick start the program with a $5,000 donation to each!

Biffle, one of just 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers who will vie for the series’ 2013 Championship, joined Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch in announcing the program that will feature a $15 discount for tickets in the track’s frontstretch Anniston Grandstand for the Sunday, Oct. 20 event. Each Anniston Grandstand ticket for Birmingham First Responders will be sold at $55 (normally $70). In addition to the special price, a $15 donation for each of those tickets sold will be split between the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

"September 11 is a day in America’s history that will always be remembered for the incredible tragedy that we faced as a nation," said Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch, who was also joined in attendance by Birmingham Fire Chief Ivor Brooks. "What can also be remembered is the incredible courage and heroism displayed by the first responders in the face of such unimaginable danger.

"To honor those that selflessly take on this danger for the safety of the public day in and day out, we are extending a small token of our gratitude with this special ticket offer to the First Responders. We want every First Responder to know how much we appreciate them and what they do for our communities, so we are going to make the first donation of $5,000 to each of these fine charitable organizations."

The announcement was made at Birmingham’s Fire Station 1 as part of a huge city-wide celebration that included three main objectives: 1) a Day of Service for volunteers from all over the city to band together to help improve local spaces; 2) a Tribute to First Responders who work every day to serve the public; and 3) the kickoff to the 50th Anniversary of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.

Biffle jumped right into the events of the day, assisting with the washing of a fire truck, and then spending time with the firemen, who gave him a tour of the facility, showcasing their safety equipment, as well as all aspects of a fire truck. Biffle even took the truck for a lap around the block. He later met with other Birmingham First Responders (which included police officials) at Kelly Ingram Park prior to the 1 p.m. "official" program to kickoff Empowerment Week, a part of the city’s year-long Civil Rights remembrance campaign 50 Years Forward.

"We are excited to have Talladega Superspeedway and Greg Biffle be a part of Empowerment Week," said Mayor William A. Bell during the program in Kelly Ingram Park. "The track is an important partner to the city of Birmingham, and we always look forward to the races, which make a huge economic impact here in our city. This is a special time for Birmingham and we are thrilled that both Greg and Grant are here with us today."

"It was a thrill for me to participate in today’s ‘Day of Service’ and to spend some time with Birmingham’s first responders," said Biffle, driver of the 3M Ford for Roush Fenway Racing. "This is an incredible week as we all come together to commemorate the
