Max Gresham And The Amwins Group, Inc Team Finish 19th At Chicagoland Speedway

Sharp-Gallaher Racing's Max Gresham finished 19th in Friday's EnjoyIllinois.Com 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Chicagoland Speedway after battling handling issues.

The 20-year-old driver started the race from the 20th position. As soon as the green flag dropped, Gresham alerted crew chief Chris Showalter that he was battling loose handling on the No. 8 Chevrolet during the early stages of the race. Showalter called the Milner, Ga., native to pit road under yellow-flag conditions during the first caution for tires, fuel, track bar and a wedge adjustment in an attempt to alleviate the handling issues Gresham was fighting.

Although he was battling a free handling condition throughout the night, Gresham's lap times were comparable to the cars running in the top 10 during long green-flag runs.

Back on track, Gresham maintained a position in the top 20, but reported the No. 8 AmWINS Chevrolet was still too loose which led the pit crew to make major chassis adjustments during their next scheduled pit stops. As the race progressed, Gresham worked his way up to 10th in the running order, but as the loose-handling condition persisted, he slipped back in the field ultimately crossing the finish line in 19th position.

"We just didn't have it right all night," said Gresham. "Our AmWINS Group, Inc. team tried a number of adjustments and pit strategies, but nothing seemed to work in our favor. We have to put this weekend behind us and move on to Las Vegas (Motor Speedway). We're a much better team than where we finished today."

Gresham remains 16th in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship point standings following his first career start at Chicagoland Speedway's 1.5-mile oval.
