Milka Duno 13th in ARCA Series Fall Classic at Salem Speedway

Milka Duno arrived at Salem Speedway hoping to match or beat her 8th place finish there earlier this year, but while electrical issues during race kept her out of the top-10 Duno did earn her twelfth top-15 result of the season by finishing 13th.

Duno qualified 16th for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care.

Moving up to 15th by lap 33 Duno would hold that spot until lap 91 when she took over 14th, but while she was able to move up a few positions some electrical issues were causing concern and affecting her speed.

Bringing her No. 35 Milka Way/Cantv Chevrolet, now down two laps, into the pits during the second caution period her Venturini Motorsports (VMS) crew replaced the ignition panel, loaded her with fuel and sent her back out with four new Hoosier tires.

Despite the very quick and skilled action of the VMS crew repairs in the pits during a short-track race can often lead to the loss of a few laps – and Duno would exit pit road down additional laps.

Back on the track the electrical issues would again occur sporadically but Duno was still able to pass cars and turn very quick laps - often right on pace with the leaders.

Duno would pit her final time during the third caution of the race to get two new right side tires.

During the remaining laps of the race Duno was on a charge to gain additional positions and was able to grab and hold on to 13th until the end of the 200-lap race.

“We were on the right path to better our result from our race here in April,” said Duno. “We improved our starting spot over last time and were working very hard to improve our finish as well. Unfortunately, we had some electrical problems that affected us.”

"We had to deal with some electrical “gremlins” that did affect us but Milka was really driving very well. She was passing other cars and turning some really fast laps,” said Kevin Caldwell, Crew Chief, No. 35 Venturini Motorsports Cantv/Milka Way Chevrolet. “If she didn’t have to overcome being behind on laps she may very well have had her third top-10 of the season.”

Duno remains 7th in the ARCA Racing Series Driver Point Standings while heading into the penultimate round of the 2013 ARCA Racing Series season at Kentucky Speedway on September 20th.
