Podium Position For Automobili Lamborghini Racing Team Germany In The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series

Last week-end, team “Automobili Lamborghini Racing Team Germany” had to work hard for races 11 and 12 of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe series which were held on the Nürburgring - their home circuit.

For the first time, the team had three Lamborghini Super Trofeo cars at the start in the strong “fastest brand trophy of the world“, and straight away, they managed to secure a podium position in Saturday’s race in Lamborghini no. 21 (driver: Andreas Gülden).

The car with starter number 22 was driven by Louis Wagner (Luxembourg) whilst the third Lamborghini with starter number 23 was driven by Shota Abkhazava (Russia).

During both free practice sessions, both pilots from Luxembourg and Russia had the chance to familiarise with the German racing circuit.

Andreas Gülden (starter number 21) did not join free practice until the second session. It was his debut on a Lamborghini – however, the racing circuit is known to him as he is chief instructor of the Nürburgring Akademie, so he knows the circuit like the back of his hand.

The weather was fine during Qualifying in the afternoon – under pleasant outside temperatures, the three drivers reached starting positions 10, 15 and 16.

On Saturday at 11:50 h then, race no. 11 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo began.
Andreas Gülden had a very good start and managed to make up some positions. During the race, the “Lamborghini rookie” fought his way through the field. However, when a competitor crashed into the driver’s door of Lamborghini no. 21 in the NGK chicane, the blood froze in the team’s veins. Andreas Gülden managed to regain control over the car and crossed the finish line in second place of the class ranking (5th place of the total ranking) – slightly bumped but happy.

His team colleague Louis Wagner from Luxembourg was not so lucky. After some thrilling duels, an extensively-motivated colleague overtook him - also in the NGK chicane. He missed breaking point and literally “shot off”. As a result, he then had to park his car after the collision.

Shota Abkhaza drove many constant laps and finished the race in 13th place of the total ranking after a good performance.

Race 12 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo commenced at 9:30 h on Sunday morning and was quite turbulent at the start.
Andreas Gülden was involved in an accident during the starting phase and found himself in 7th place. After a nice chase, he had to park up his car during the obligatory pit stop as front splitter and bumper loosened during the accident and were dragged over the asphalt which made continuation of the race impossible.

Both gentlemen drivers - Shota Abkhazava (starting no. 23) and Louis Wagner (starting no. 22) - finished the race in 16th resp. 17th place.

Team Manager Ingo Leipert explained: “Andreas Gülden got us a wonderful podium position, and our two amateur drivers also performed well and handled the cars without problems. Now, we are looking forward to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Final in Vallelunga between 23rd and 24th November. Teams from Europe, Asia and North America will be at the start there.”

Next week-end, team rhino’s Leipert Motorsport will take part in the next race of the Int. DMV TCC at Monza – naturally in their two Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 GT3 cars.
