All Or Nothing For Mason Mingus; Win-Tron Racing At Kansas Speedway

It’s all or nothing this week for Mason Mingus and his Win-Tron Racing team as they take on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season finale at Kansas Speedway.

With the opportunity to claim the 2013 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards driver champion now officially evaporated, Mingus will shift his focus on securing his first career win in the Kansas Lottery 98.9.

That’s not all that the Brentwood, Tennessee native is after though. Still up for grabs is the SCOTT Rookie of the Year honor. Currently, Mingus sits just six points behind rival Justin Boston for the title and the outcome of Friday night’s race could see the teenager rise against the deficit and prevail.

However, it will take that “all or nothing attitude” for Mingus in his No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig / Mark-It! Madness Toyota Camry to nail his sixth top-five of the year and 18th top-10 of the season.

“We are definitely going into Kansas with an all or nothing attitude,” said Mingus, who will finish second in the overall championship standings no matter his finishing position this weekend. “This is our last chance to get an ARCA win and we’re going to throw everything we have at it to try and make it happen.”

The 18-year old added, “This isn’t the most ideal place for us to get our first win, but myself and everyone on the Win-Tron Racing team wants this really bad. We’ve been close to a win many times this year and to end the season without one will leave us wondering what would have been. Mark (Rette, crew chief) and the team have put a lot of work into this car and I’m excited to see how it all unfolds.”

Despite his inexperience on Kansas’ mile-and-a-half layout, the Win-Tron Racing development driver did partake in the open test session, placing eight fastest overall in the group of participants in the eight-hour open practice. While, the Win-Tron Racing team has elected to bring a different chassis for the race than what they tested with on September 9, Mingus remains upbeat about the 21st race of his inaugural rookie season.

“Testing has paid off a lot for me this year,” he sounded. “I’ve learned a ton and I know I will continue to learn at Kansas Speedway this week, but what we learned at the test and our performance at Kentucky, another mile-and-a-half track, led us to go in another direction; car wise. I think it will pay off.”

No matter what the aftermath delivers in the Kansas 98.9, Mingus’s freshman year will be one to remember.

“We’ve pretty much done it all, expect win,” he explained. “We have the opportunity to change that on Friday night. If we can’t, it won’t be from a lack of effort. We’ve come a long way since Daytona in February and I’m sincerely proud of what we have accomplished.”

Mingus also noted, “There’s always (could be) next year!”

Following Kansas, Mingus will take a week break before embracing the next step in his racing career, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS).

Last week, Win-Tron Racing announced that Mingus will make his NCWTS debut at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway piloting the No. 35 Call 811 Before You Dig / Mark-It! Madness Chevrolet Silverado. Additionally, he will compete in the final two races of the year from Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway (November 8) and Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway (November 15) respectively.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to make my NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut at Talladega,” Mingus mentioned. "We've been working hard to make this opportunity possible and for it now to become a reality is really a dream come true. It’s very humbling for sure.”

The Win-Tron Racing team has elected to utilize chassis No.018 for Friday night’s showdown. It is the same piece responsible for three of Mingus’s 17 top-10 finishes this season utilized at Chicagoland Speedway in July, Iowa Speedway in September and most recently at Kentucky Speedway. Mingus finished sixth in his Windy City debut after qualifying his automobile in the same position. In the Prairie Meadows 150 at Iowa, Mingus soared to his second pole of the season before carving a seventh place finish. In the penultimate event on the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) tour, Mingus started third after rain washed away qualifying and he wrestled his automobile to a 10th place run.

Entering The Sunflower State, the Tennessean has 33 ARCA Racing Series races to his credit. During that tenure, he has acquired five top-fives and 24 top-10 finishes, including second-place runs at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Toledo Speedway and Berlin (Mich.) Raceway in August 2013. Additionally, two pole runs at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway (March 2013) and Iowa Speedway (September 2013), is his best time trials effort to date.
