Drivers Sport Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness; UNOH Southern Slam Streamed Live

DECKED OUT IN PINK – October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and participants at Charlotte Motor Speedway always come decked out in pink for Bank of America 500 week. This year is no exception as pink is highlighted in a number of paint schemes. Charlotte Motor Speedway itself features an all-pink pit wall and pink and white start/finish line.

NASCAR Nationwide Series sponsor Nationwide Insurance has given each of their respective teams a pink windshield identification banner. Among the teams featuring pink as a primary color is the No. 34 of James Buescher with a pink and black scheme; No. 95 of Reed Sorenson featuring a pink and blue color; No. 11 of Elliott Sadler with an all-pink race car, along with the No. 20 of Brian Vickers; No. 30 of driver Nelson Piquet Jr., sporting pink and white; No. 60 of Travis Pastrana with a pink background and multi-colored race car; and No. 44 of Chad Hocken whose ride is pink and black.

Race cars sporting pink in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series include No. 20 of Matt Kenseth and sponsor Dollar General; No. 36 of J.J. Yeley also with an all-pink scheme; No. 10 of Danica Patrick whose car is a pink and green; and Landon Cassill’s No. 40 with pink and black colors.

Additionally, two of the Whelen Modified cars are sporting pink paint schemes this weekend – the No. 11 of Andy Seuss and the No. 28 of points leader and defending series champion George Brunnhoehlzl, III.

UNOH SOUTHERN SLAM 150 TO STREAM LIVE – NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race from Charlotte Motor Speedway will be airing live on NASCARHomeTracks.com starting approximately at 8:20 p.m. this evening.

The webcast will feature flag-to-flag coverage of the tour’s final event of the season where George Brunnhoelzl III is looking to become the series; first four-time champion.

McGUIRE WINS PILOT/FLYING J CHALLENGE – Greg McGuire, hauler driver for Champion Tire & Wheel, was named the 2013 Pilot/Flying J Truck Driver Challenge Champion in a press conference Thursday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

McGuire, a rookie to the program but a 25-year veteran of driving haulers, overcame a rocky start in the first challenge to post three straight perfect scores in the final three challenges, securing his title win on the 10th anniversary of the in the competition.

“It’s been an honor to compete with all these guys,” McGuire said. “I had a lot of fun, learned a lot. I’m looking forward to trying to beat these guys again next year.”

Michael Waltrip Racing hauler driver Tony Sessions was second, and Joe Gibbs Racing hauler driver Tom McCrimmon – the 2012 champion – finished third.

This year’s Pilot/Flying J Truck Driver Challenge also expanded to NHRA and IndyCar. Winners of those components -- Keith Smith of Cagnazzi Racing in NHRA, and Todd Deneve of Chip Ganassi Racing in IndyCar – were announced earlier this week.
