2013 Japanese GP: Formula One F1 Starting Line-up Grid & Race Preview
By Mike Sulka
It's round 15 of 19 and the Formula One F1 world championship is ready to be clinched with Sebastian Vettel starting on the front row and leading the 2013 drivers points by 77 over Fernando Alonso who starts eighth. Only a win can clinch for Vettel, and only if Alonso finishes 8th or worse.
The Suzuka circuit is known for its 'figure eight' path and has many notable curves including the Esses which lead off the race, and the 130R which has seen numerous drivers caught out over the years. Suzuka is considered a high-speed circuit, but will offer just one DRS zone this weekend due to the constantly changing direction of the course. Suzuka has hosted all but four of the 28 Japanese Grand Prix after a brief interlude with Fuji Speedway.
Leading the field from Pole for the first time this season will be Red Bull F1 driver Mark Webber. Webber will be going for his first win of the 2013 Formula One F1 season after his teammate Sebastian Vettel violated team orders to snatch victory from Webber at the Malaysian Grand Prix - the infamous multi-21 incident.
The not so subtle back drop includes a hint that Webber may be asked to cede another victory if Vettel can clinch the championship.
And if you think the boo-birds are out now, just pull that stunt with four Grand Prix to go.
As for Vettel, he loves Suzuka, and Suzuka loves him. Vettel has won three of the last four Grand Prix at the track.
As for the rest of the field, we just don't believe they are fast enough. Especially when one considers that Vettel qualified without the benefit of his KERS system.
Fernando Alonso will start eighth in his Ferrari, and he has been great in the races. But starting mid-pack, doesn't win championships.
So here's what we expect. Red Bull will win walking away. The question is which driver. And if Vettel and Red Bull are smart, they will let Webber grab a bit of glory that was seized from him at Malaysia.
But then again, Webber has had many, many bad starts.
Thus, we are picking Vettel for an easy victory, but no title. Alonso will cover the points.
Enjoy Formula One's F1 2013 Japanese Grand Prix. It is sure to be another fabulous event.
