Matt Tifft; Win-Tron Racing Look To End Season On A High Note

The last NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race of the season is upon rookie Matt Tifft and his Win-Tron Racing team and together, the duo looks for nothing more than “go big or go home” attitude in Friday afternoon’s Road Atlanta 115.

MTRacing_DOC360_40In their first season together, Tifft and the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team have experienced their share of ups and downs, but that’s to be expected for any young team in their freshman season. After a few bumps earlier in the season, the team and their 17-year old protégé leveled off and showed that despite their inexperience on the circuit, they could be (weekly) contenders.

In 12 races this year, Tifft in his No. 89 DOC 360 Chevrolet Impala has maneuvered three top-10s, six top 15s and 10 top-17 runs, including a career-best of sixth at Langley (Va.) Speedway.

While 11 of those 12 starts included races on ovals, Tifft and his team competed in the first of two road course races of the year at VIRginia International Raceway in August, where the Hinckley, Ohio native maneuvered a 15th place finish.

Additionally, Tifft further honed an exceptional skill for road course racing after competing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, where the teenager started 17th due to inclement weather, but methodically worked his way to a fifth-place finish in 52 laps.

The ability to turn both left and right has sharpened the skills of the Buckeye native and gives him further acceleration and determination to succeed in the inaugural NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at the 2.54-mile; 12-turn road course.

“I don’t mind road racing at all,” said Tifft. “I’ve had the opportunity to race on road courses three times this year and with each event, I’m getting better and better. There’s a lot of technical elements that goes into road racing, but the experience and actual races themselves helps me broaden the skill and more importantly, teaches me new things about our No. 89 DOC 360 Chevrolet Impala.”

To ensure their chances of a strong finish in the season-finale this week, Tifft and his Jamie Jones led group have been vigorously testing with their No. 89 DOC 360 Chevrolet in-hopes of finding not only an ideal setup, but relying on their freshman driver for feedback to provide the best vehicle possible for the 28-lap race.

“We tested at Virginal International Raceway last week and thankfully participated in an open-test session at Road Atlanta this week to get ourselves in a good spot to have a shot at top-10 finish. Theoretically, 28 laps doesn’t seem like a lot, but it’s a road-course, a very long one, so anything can happen. Keeping our No. 89 DOC 360 Chevrolet Impala on-course
will be pivotal to a strong finish, but we just have to make sure the car is dialed in to our liking too.

No matter what the outcome of Friday’s race though, I’m very appreciative to each and every crew member of the Win-Tron Racing team for their relentless effort this season and especially a huge thanks to DOC 360 for their support in me. Without them, this year would not have been possible.”

For Win-Tron Racing, owned by former racers Kevin Cywinski and Nate Thiesse, the expansion to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East tour opens the door for the team to continue and enhance their on-track product. The team will work vigorously with Tifft as part of their driver development platform. The team finished second in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards championship point standings this season with another rookie driver Mason Mingus.

“It’s our last race of the season and we definitely want to end it on a high note,” said Thiesse. “Time and time again, Matt continues to impress us not only with his talent behind the wheel, but his work ethic as well. He’s pumped up about this race and we want nothing more than to give him a fast No. 89 DOC 360 Chevrolet and end the year with a top-10.”

The Road Atlanta 115 (28 laps / 71.12 miles / 114.47 kilometers) is set for Friday, October 18. The 28-lap feature will lift off shortly after 3:30 p.m. (Eastern). The race will be tape-delayed on FOX Sports 1 with an air date of Saturday, November 2 at 10:00 a.m.
