Cessna to Showcase Auburn University at Talladega Superspeedway


Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (EGR) and team sponsor, Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna), announce today that former Daytona 500 Champion Jamie McMurray will carry the colors of Auburn University on the No. 1 Cessna Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at Talladega Superspeedway.

This weekend at Talladega the highly recognizable Auburn University logo will adorn the hood and lower rear quarter panels on the Cessna car. Auburn is a comprehensive research university with a nationally-ranked engineering program, located only about 100 miles from Talladega.

Notes of Interest:

· McMurray at Talladega: Jamie McMurray made his first career NSCS start at Talladega Superspeedway in 2002 driving for car owner Chip Ganassi and subbing for an injured Sterling Marlin. Since 2002 he has made 22 career starts at the Alabama track and has completed 3841 of 4176 (92%) laps of competition on the 2.66-mile high-banked tri-oval. McMurray has five career top-five and six top-10 finishes including one win in the 2009 running of the Camping World RV Sales 500.

· Superspeedway Success: On tracks greater than two miles in length, McMurray has 117 NSCS career starts, where he has accumulated three poles, 29 top-10, 15 top-five finishes and four victories including - 2007 Coke Zero 400 (Daytona), 2009 CWRV Sales 500 (Talladega), 2010 Daytona 500 and 2010 Brickyard 400 (Indianapolis Motor Speedway).

· War Eagle: Members of Auburn’s War Eagle Motorsports teams participate in Formula SAE and Baja SAE collegiate competitions. Auburn engineering graduates work in many forms of professional racing. Auburn offers prestigious programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics as well as agriculture, humanities, social sciences and the arts.
