Ganassi IndyCar driver Scott Dixon has won the 2013 IndyCar championship after finishing fifth at the season finale at California Speedway in Fontana, California. With the result, Dixon (577 points) was able to claim the championship by 27 points over Penske driver Helio Castroneves who finished sixth in the race. Dixon had four wins, six podiums, and two poles during the season. Dixon had the most wins during the year and 2012 IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay was the only driver who could match the number of victories.

For Dixon, this is his third IndyCar championship. Interestingly, his drivers titles have been each been separated by five years (2003, 2008, 2013). Since 2007, Dixon has also finished second in the championship twice, and third three times.

Helio Castroneves is always the bridesmaid, and never the bride. Although the Brazilian has won three Indianapolis 500 races, he has never won a major drivers championship. In 13 years of IndyCar racing, and 4 years in the CART series, Castroneves has finished second in the championship three times. In 1997, he also finished second in the Indy Lights support series.
