2013 NHRA: JFR Pre-Race Stats Package For Las Vegas 2

Flashback to . . . .
OCTOBER 31, 2010

After qualifying second behind daughter Ashley Force Hood, John Force drives his 25th Anniversary Castrol GTX Ford Mustang past the Toyota of Jeff Arend, the Dodge of Melanie Troxel, the Ford Mustang of Bob Tasca III and, finally, the Dodge of points leader Matt Hagan to win the Las Vegas Nationals.

The victory enable Force to move to within 37 points of Hagan, whom he would pass for the championship two weeks later with a victory in the Auto Club Finals at Pomona, Calif.

The Drivers

JOHN FORCE, 64, is riding the momentum born of a two-race winning streak that carried him and his Castrol GTX Ford Mustang to the top of the Mello Yello Funny Car standings for the 19th season. He leads 2011 champion Matt Hagan by 65 points going into the Toyota Nationals. The 137-time tour winner is bidding for his 16th championship in the last 24 seasons.

BRITTANY FORCE, 27, has come into her own as the rookie driver of the Castrol EDGE Top Fuel dragster. At the wheel of the first Top Fuel dragster ever fielded by John Force Racing Inc., she has qualified for all four of the events thus far contested in the Countdown to the Championship while posting personal best 1,000 foot times in three of her last five starts including a 3.795 at St.Louis.

ROBERT HIGHT, 44, who made history when he won the 2009 championship from the 10th and final Countdown starting position, is not yet ready to concede this year’s championship, not even to his father-in-law. He and the Auto Club Ford will start this week from fourth place in points, 134 down to the leader but just eight behind reigning champion Jack Beckman, who currently occupies the No. 3 position.

COURTNEY FORCE, 25, is trying to improve on the No. 5 finish she manufactured last season en route to NHRA Rookie-of-the-Year recognition as the winner of the Auto Club’s Road to the Future Award. She will start this week from seventh place in points in the Traxxas Ford Mustang. Nevertheless, she is only 65 points behind defending champion Jack Beckman, who currently is third.

a. Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis
b. The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
c. Gateway Motorsports Park at St. Louis
d. The Texas Motorplex at Dallas
e. Maple Grove Raceway at Reading, Pa.
f. Heartland Park-Topeka
g. Royal Purple Raceway at Houston
