Firestone Racing is sponsoring one of the pro-am entries, with IndyCar Series driver Sebastian Saavedra teaming with a trio of Firestone Complete Auto Care employees. Firestone Racing is also donating go-kart tires for the two-hour timed race beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET Saturday, Oct. 26. The charity event benefits the Alzheimer’s Association, a foundation that had special significance to Wheldon after his mother was diagnosed with the disease in 2008.

“This is a great way to celebrate Dan’s memory and help with a cause that meant so much to him,” said Lisa Boggs, Director of Bridgestone Americas Motorsports. “Dan was a close friend of the Firestone Racing family, and we jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this special event.”

Saavedra, 23, just completed his fourth season in the IndyCar Series. He also raced for two seasons in Firestone Indy Lights, where he won three races. Saavedra will be the professional driver on the Firestone team and paired with FCAC representatives Tony Harter, Dave Lamberson and Steve Papai.

“I am honored that Firestone Racing asked me to be its pro driver for the pro-am,” Saavedra said. “Dan was a true friend to all of the other drivers, so I am proud to compete in this event in his honor. Plus, with the Firestone team behind me and Bridgestone tires on our kart, I know we’ll have a great showing.”

Other IndyCar drivers expected to race in the pro-am include 2013 series champion Scott Dixon, James Hinchcliffe, Simon Pagenaud, Josef Newgarden, Tristan Vautier, Ed Carpenter, J.R. Hildebrand, Alex Tagliani, Conor Daly, Martin Plowman and Jay Howard, as well as newly crowned Firestone Indy Lights champion Sage Karam and Bryan Herta, the retired driver who was once Wheldon’s teammate and later his car owner. Drivers will be available for an autograph session at 11:45 a.m. and the Firestone Firehawk mascot will make an appearance. Gates open at 7 a.m. and admission is free.
