Erebus To Run Special Livery In Support Of NSW Rural Fire Service At Sydney 500

Regular sponsor Heavy Haulage Australia has agreed to have its logos removed for the occasion as Erebus Motorsport pays tribute to the 2000-strong volunteer rural fire brigades which compromises a total membership of just over 70,000.

The RFS was in the headlines in October as they battled fires through NSW, with a massive effort in the Blue Mountains and Hunter regions.

“Our members have worked tirelessly over the last few months and will continue to do so throughout the fire season,” said NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons.

“We are honoured by this opportunity to publicly acknowledge the courageous efforts of the men and women who volunteer their time to serve communities across NSW.

“From the RFS we certainly thank Erebus Motorsport V8 for the privilege of being part of the popular Sydney 500 race.”

Erebus Motorsport V8 team owner, and proud Sydneysider, Betty Klimenko says the opportunity to support the RFS is something she is proud to do.

"The Australian way is to get in and help a mate and nothing typifies that more than the Rural Fire Service," said Ms Klimenko.

"Having the logos on one of our cars is a real honour. The aim is to thank the RFS not only for what they have done, but what they will continue to do for residents who have bush fire risk as part of their lives.

"A lot of people see the V8 drivers as heroes, but we need to admire the RFS and its massive volunteer force each and every summer. I trust our effort in showing support draws the much needed focus on those people."

Heavy Haulage Australia's CEO Jon Kelly was in support of the initiative.

"Heavy Haulage Australia is a big supporter of this initiative and we are sure that the RFS logos on the #47 car is a great way of showing the support for the Rural Fire Service heading into the summer period," said Mr Kelly.

Founded in 2011, Erebus Motorsport has quickly become a well respected player in Australian and international motorsport. Beginning with the first of AMG Customer Sports' SLS AMG GT3 outside Europe, and then took the bold move in 2012 to introduce AMG into the Australian V8 Supercars for 2013.

Erebus Motorsport is unique in having V8 Supercars first and only sole female team owner in Betty Klimenko. The Sydney businesswoman has driven the program from the very beginning off the back of her passion for motorsport and the development of young talent.

Erebus has been developing its three E63 AMG V8 Supercars throughout 2013 in a combined effort between Australia and Germany. Outside its pair of SLS AMG GT3s and the V8 Supercars, Erebus Motorsport holds a franchise in the V8 Utes category and has established the Erebus Motorsport Academy to develop young driving and engineering talent. The organisation holds proprietary rights to the right hand drive version of the AMG E-Cell driver safety cell used in the SLS AMG GT3 and across the DTM platform under the Erebus Engineering banner.

Over 100 years ago the residents of the south-western New South Wales township of Berrigan formed Australia's first official bush fire brigade. The resident's joined together as firefighters for mutual protection against the ever-present threat of bush fires.

On 1 September 1997, The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS) was established by an act of Parliament as the successor to the first bush fire brigade, redefining the world's largest fire service and building on a century of experience in protecting some of the most fire-prone areas on earth.

Today the Service comprises over 2,000 volunteer rural fire brigades with a total membership of just over 70,000. In addition, salaried staff are employed to manage the day to day operations of the Service at Headquarters, regional offices and district fire control centres.

This section of the website is dedicated to provide further information on the NSW Rural Fire Service, its history, role, structure, fundraising, employment, and how to contact us.
