Supercross Legend Windham To Headline Big Apple Motorcycle Show In December

GEICO Motorcycle Honda dirt bike racing superstar Kevin Windham will be the main attraction at the International Motorcycle Show taking place Dec. 13-15 at the Javits Center on Manhattan's west side.

Windham will sign autographs and meet with attendees throughout the event in the GEICO Motorcycle display. He'll also join fellow Supercross stars Ricky Carmichael and Jeff Emig for question-and-answer sessions with fans at 5 p.m., Friday, and again at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Saturday.

"There's a lot of excitement about New York City in the Supercross world right now," said Windham, who retired earlier this year. "Our series is going to race in MetLife Stadium in April for the first time ever, so I'm sure I'll be getting an early taste of the energy these crazy New York fans will bring to that event when we hit this show."

Windham, of Centerville, Miss., is one of just a handful of riders who competed in more than 200 Supercross races during his career. The affable pro's smooth riding style, trademark flashy transfers during rider introductions, and 19 career SX victories helped make him the undisputed fan favorite at every arena the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series visited.

"I knew the hardest thing about walking away from my riding career would be the awesome relationship I have with our fans," Windham said. "There's very little I enjoy more than spending time with all the people who have supported me for 19 seasons or that feeling of electricity that runs though you when you get introduced on that arena floor and 60,000 people are cheering for you.

"I got lucky after I got off the bike because they started using me on the TV broadcasts, so I was able to keep that close contact with everyone.

"Of course when I was approached to do this show in New York there was no way I could turn it down. There are so many Supercross fans all over the Northeast, which was an area we didn't reach as much as I would have liked over the years. So I look at this show as an opportunity to meet and greet fans from the greater New York area and, really, from around the world."

Even though his career as a rider with GEICO Honda has come to an end, Windham will remain a part of the sport as a television analyst and spokesperson.

"It's a new challenge for me and I'm looking forward to it," Windham said. "It requires a lot of the same mental focus and concentration that I used as a rider. Thankfully if I make a little mistake and get tongue-tied, it doesn't hurt nearly as bad as when you get thrown off your bike."

The show runs from 1 to 9 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13, at the Javits Center (655 W. 34th St.). Saturday is a full day with doors open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday's hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
