Strong Fifth Place FInish For Nick Leitz at SLLMS Myrtle Beach Finale

Nick Leitz went to Myrtle Beach Speedway in search of the championship in the Southern Limited Late Model Series (SLLMS) Challenger division. Though he fell short of that goal, he did manage a very strong fifth place finish in his final start of the 2013 race season.

This race followed a strong run by Nick at Dillon Motor Speedway where he ran second right with the leader until a shock issue forced him out of contention.

It was a year of continuous improvement and the season-ending fifth sets the stage for an even stronger 2014.

"This was definitely a good run for us," the 16-year-old said after the race. "We wanted the championship and we felt like we had a shot at it. We needed to finish seven spots in front of the points leader to make it happen. We qualified sixth on crappy tires but he qualified 17th so I really focused on the big picture and tried to be smart with my driving during the race. I knew we were going to have to run top five to have a chance and we did that but it wasn't enough. It was a great way to end the season I would have liked to have gotten the win at Dillon but that just wasn't meant to be."

Elaborating on his experience this year, Nick said "This was a really good year once we got rolling. We didn't race as much as I would have liked to, but Ed and Kelli Cox and their team along with Tom Baker from Team Full Throttle all taught me a lot this year and I'm very thankful for how much I grew as a driver this season. I can't wait for 2014 because I am really confident we will win some races next year!"
