The Hawkei will lead the 32 V8 Race Utes to the Grid at key races throughout 2014 and to celebrate Thales is launching the vehicle at this weekend’s Sydney NRMA Motoring and Services 500 at the V8 Utes Grand Finale round.

The Hawkei is built by the same company that makes the iconic Aussie Bushmaster, The Bushmaster was used in Afghanistan, and is part of the display at the Australian War Memorial Afghanistan Exhibition.

The Hawkei will be on display in the Merchandise Area at the Sydney NRMA 500 this weekend whilst the drivers take to the track for the Grand Finale.

Four of the top drivers in contention for the championship title will be on-hand to welcome Hawkei (named after one of Australia’s deadliest snakes) to the Series. Reigning V8 Ute Champion Ryal Harris is currently leading the Series on 782, 39 points clear of West Aussie Rhys McNally but with 140 points up for grabs over the weekend Harris isn’t home-free. Nathan Pretty sits in 3rd only 2 points shy of McNally whilst West Sydneysider David Sieders is on 704 points in 4th.

Sieders will be looking for his first win claiming second the past two years in a row whilst Harris will be looking to walk away with back-to-back titles. Only two other drivers have achieved this. (Warren Luff 2002/2003 and Damien White 2004/2005). Grant Johnson also has two titles under his belt but they were three years apart (2007/2010).

The Thales team are looking forward to being involved with the V8 Ute Series and looking forward to watching all of the action this weekend.

Chris Jenkins, Thales Australia CEO, said: “Where better to show what Australia can do than at the Auto one V8 Ute series? The Hawkei is Aussie know-how at its best!”

“Focused on winning, being the best and protecting your mates, that’s Australia. That’s what the Hawkei is all about. We think this Aussie beast is in great company with the iconic Australian ute.”

Thales and Hawkei will join the Series full-time in 2014. The vehicle will be seen at key races during the V8 Utes Rounds both on and off the Grid.
