FIA Gala 2013
Ogier and Ingrassia receive the World Championship trophies in Paris

The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) trophies have been handed over to Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia in Paris. At the official world motorsport federation FIA Gala, the brand from Wolfsburg and the French driver pair were officially crowned World Champions. “I look back on an incredible year. If anybody had told us at the beginning of the season that Julien and I would end the season with nine wins and the World Championship title, I probably would have sent them straight to the team doctor,” Ogier remarked after receiving the trophy. “For Julien and me a dream has come true and we are both extremely proud and honoured to finally be able to hold the FIA trophy.” Dr Heinz-Jakob Neußer, a member of the Volkswagen management board for technical development, deputised to accept the Manufacturers’ World Champion trophy. Ogier and co-driver Ingrassia clinched the driver and co-driver classifications at the Rally France and then at the 13th rally of the season in Spain, together with team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) and Andreas Mikkelsen/Mikko Markkula (N/FIN), Volkswagen were crowned Manufacturer Champions. The triple had been completed.

FIA Motorsport Moment of the Year 2013
Polo R WRC jump is the “Motorsport Moment of the Year 2013”

Intense heat, quick gravel sections and spectacular jumps: this is what the Rally Italy in Sardinia is known for and this is exactly why the fans love it so much. Volkswagen pilot Sébastien Ogier together with co-driver Julien Ingrassia celebrated his fourth win of the season on the Italian island in the Mediterranean this year – the foundation stone for overall victory during the 2013 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) in Volkswagen's debut season. The Frenchman once again had his Polo R WRC perfectly under control over the demanding terrain. On the world motorsport federation (FIA) Facebook page, fans were asked to vote and once again declared their fondness for Ogier and the Volkswagen brand by choosing Ogier and Ingrassia's leap in the Polo R WRC over the notorious “Mickey's jump” hilltop as the “FIA Motorsport Moment of the Year 2013”.

Caschi d'Oro 2013
World Champion Ogier honoured with the “Golden Helmet”

World Rally Champion Sébastien Ogier can celebrate after picking up another significant trophy. The Volkswagen driver was awarded the “Caschi d'Oro” or “Golden Helmet” in Bologna. Volkswagen also received an award for their outstanding achievement in this year’s FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). The father of the WRC project, Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the Audi AG management board, accepted the prize, given out each year by the Italian motor racing magazine, Autosprint, on behalf of the brand from Wolfsburg. In previous years the Golden Helmet was won by motor racing greats such as former Formula 1 Champions Ayrton Senna, Niki Lauda or James Hunt. Following the award ceremony, Sébastien Ogier flew straight back to France, where Volkswagen are concentrating on test driving in preparation for the start of the 2014 season at the Rally Monte Carlo.

The dust has barely settled on Volkswagen's successful debut season in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), but preparations for the new season are already well underway. Since 02 December, Sébastien Ogier (F), Jari-Matti Latvala (FIN) and Andreas Mikkelsen (N) have been performing test drives in the French Alps. At an altitude of almost 1,500 metres, Volkswagen had been gearing up for the Rally Monte Carlo, which will provide the 2014 season opener in the middle of January. The drivers have been going through quick uphill and downhill sections in the Polo R WRC for starters. Night drives, characteristic of the Rally Monte Carlo, are also on the test programme. Ogier, Latvala and Mikkelsen, who will divide up the test work throughout the week, covered some 800 kilometres during the first four days of test driving.
