Mason Massey concluded his 2013 season by meeting his goal of successfully qualifying into the 46th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida on Sunday.

Though he finished a lap down in 23rd, the team was all smiles after the four-day weekend was over. Why? Because the best of the best in Super Late Model racing were in the field and several top competitors went home.

Racing against foes with NASCAR experience such as David Ragan, Landon Cassill, Daniel Hemric, Chase Elliott, John-Hunter Nemechek, and Johanna Long plus SLM veterans Augie Grill, Bubba Pollard, and more put Mason in fast company. Qualifying in on time was a strong accomplishment.

"Our goal coming into this weekend was just to qualify for the race and we did that," Mason said. "We were really loose early and got a lap down. Once the sun went down we were so good but with the level of competition in this race once you get in a hole it's hard to make it up. I can't thank Augie Grill, Doug Stevens and our team enough for all they did for me this weekend. It was an amazing experience! I also want to thank everyone at Special Olympics-Georgia for all they do for us. The athletes are so special and I just enjoy being a part of their events. It's truly a blessing for me."

Plans for Mason's 2014 season are being ironed out and announcements will be made as soon as everything is finalized.

Mason wanted to add that "All of us from Mason Massey Racing wish all of our fans and their families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We appreciate all of you more than words can say!"
