Binladen Continues Winning Streak With Double Win At Dubai Autodrome

Abdulaziz Binladen made it a clean sweep of race wins aboard his Liberty Kawasaki, as he notched up two wins on the UAE National Race Day at Dubai Autodrome on Friday 13 December, and thus taking his tally of race wins to five out of five starts so far this season.

The Saudi Falcons ace was simply in a league of his own claiming pole position for the 600 Class by over a second with his best time of 1:45.307 on the International Circuit configuration, then going on to win Race 1 by 15.129 seconds and following that with Race 2 victory by 12.221 seconds over his closest class rivals.

“Everything is going really well. I am going out there and riding as hard as I can, so taking two wins is very pleasing. I really love riding this circuit and whether on a 600 or 1000 it does no matter. Of course I would like to Liberty Kawasaki, my crew and family along with the organisers.”

Best of the rest in the 600 Class, in Race 1, was Gautam Mayilvagnan in second place on his Yamaha followed by reigning champion Mahmoud Tannir who was clearly relieved and happy to be back on the podium thanks to third place on his Triumph.

Surya Raja made a welcome return to the national scene, with fourth place his reward in the first race aboard his Yamaha. The former Rookie Cup champion, and last year’s championship runner-up has clearly not lost any of his speed.

After his third place earlier, Tannir’s day got better as he claimed second place in Race 2 after a close tussle with Raja who ended third, the two conjuring up memories of their battle for the title last season. The pair crossed the line almost side-by-side.

Tannir said, To be honest I did not have a very good start of the year up until this weekend, we had a retirement and a crash. Dunlop managed to bring a different tyre for us to use, and obviously it worked mych, much better for me. We are getting back on track, and I am very happy with the result. We are geeting our confidence back as a team. The goal remains to defend the title, and we will do our best to achieve this.”

Raja reflected on his comeback, “I have no pressure for the championship because I missed the first three rounds. Now I am focusing on good results and winning, taking each race as they come. I was a bit rusty in the first race, but was getting back in the groove in race two. Things will get better and the aim is to challenge Abdulaziz who is riding really well. It’s great to be back”

Allan Boyter made it a great day for Kawasaki, taking top honours in the non-championship 1000 Class with Suzuki rider Benterki Walid finishing second in both races

In the Rookie Cup it was Michael Collins on a Yamaha who did the double on the day, impressing also with a fourth overall in the 600 Class.

The season resumes on 24-25 January 2014 at Dubai Autodrome.
