Javier Ibran Impressed In Abu Dhabi Again

The Yas Marina Circuit, always a difficult venue and absolutely unknown for the Spanish driver, saw how Ibrán finished among top ten places at the wheel of his Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo. As Ibrán recognized himself, race two was one of his best performances ever.

Javier Ibrán has already finished his 2013 season after visiting some classic and famous venues all around the world while competing in the Trofeo Maserati World Series. After Paul Ricard, Nürburgring, Silverstone, Sonoma and Shanghai, Valencia-born driver approached the season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, well-known as it holds the Formula 1 Grand Prix in this Arab country.

As in the past the Yas Marina Circuit was unknown for Ibrán, but the Spanish driver had a rapid adaptation despite a brakes problem. So, in the free practice sessions Ibrán was not far from the top-ten places in Trofeo class, so his aspirations for qualifying were pretty high. Anyway, he could not equal his previous performance in qualifying and started from the back of the grid.

But it should not allow to prevent him from completing excellent performances in the races, as he overtook several rivals. In race one he was 12th at the end, and then in race two improved to finish 10th, with Ibrán recognizing himself it was one of his best races ever. Finally the season comes to an end in race three, consisting of 50 minutes and longer than the previous ones. There Ibrán finished 12th but his pace by the end was quite fast, and he was able to overtake several cars.

“It was a problematic weekend. Qualifying sessions were not as expected but my races were an enriching experience”, Ibrán explained, stating that “race three, our last race this year, was quite chaotic, because I passed several cars but they were cutting the chicane just to stay ahead of me! They didn´t serve the drive through penalty either so… Anyway I enjoyed the races, in spite of my results could have been much better. Now we need to start working on next season, when I will team up with my friend and great driver Álvaro Fontes, sharing a Ginetta G55 GT4. I do believe it will be a season with plenty of excitement and thrill”.
