Tanak Joins Ketomaa In Drive DMACK WRC2 Team

After a successful 2013 season, DMACK will continue as an authorised tyre supplier to the FIA World Rally Championship and is set to campaign a two-car team in the WRC2 series. Estonia’s Ott Tänak will join Finn Jari Ketomaa in a pair of Ford Fiesta R5 rally cars as the newly-formed Drive DMACK world rally team mounts an impressive challenge for victory.

Since entering the WRC as tyre supplier in 2011, DMACK has progressively stepped things up a gear. This season, the Anglo-Chinese manufacturer concentrated on producing high performance rally tyres specifically targeted at top private drivers and teams in WRC2 – introducing exciting new products along the way.

In August the new S6 gravel tyre took victory on its competitive debut at Rally Finland in the hands of Jari Ketomaa while DMACK-equipped Peruvian Nicolas Fuchs took victory in the WRC Production Cup. The company rounded off the season filling four of the top-five WRC2 places on its home event at Wales Rally GB with four cars in the top-12 overall.

Ketomaa continues with DMACK for 2014 – the company’s fourth season in WRC. The 34-year-old will again drive an Autotek-run Fiesta R5 with his programme commencing on February’s Rally Sweden. His highlights from 2013 include overall victory on the European Rally Championship’s Rally Liepāja-Ventspils, a WRC2 win at Rally Finland and runner-up in WRC2 at Wales Rally GB.

Tänak rejoins the DMACK team after making his world rally car debut with the squad at Wales Rally GB in 2011. Finishing sixth overall, he scored DMACK’s first-ever world rally championship points and posted a top-three overall stage time along the way.

The 26-year-old Estonian will dovetail nine events in the DMACK Fiesta R5 with three in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC as part of a separate programme. His WRC2 challenge for DMACK will kick off with Rally Mexico.

For 2014, DMACK will use the expertise of Tänak and Ketomaa in the Drive DMACK team to showcase its gravel and asphalt rally tyres – which it believes are ideally suited for WRC2 competitors. It’s set to introduce a new 2014 range for world rally competitors which will sport a number of key performance-based improvements.

DMACK will also step up its production of passenger car tyres with plans to introduce a range of over 60 new sizes after a successful launch this year.

Dick Cormack, DMACK motorsport director, said: “With the new Drive DMACK team I believe we have a seriously strong platform to demonstrate the true performance of our motorsport tyres. Every season, DMACK has stepped up a gear, constantly evolving our products to suit the ultra-tough conditions and competition at the highest level of rallying. We have the opportunity to build on some great performances from 2013 and, with Ott and Jari, a very strong driver line-up to target WRC2 victory next year. Pirelli and Hankook join us in the WRC next season and we are really looking forward to the challenge of competing against those well-established brands.”

Jari Ketomaa said: “I’ve seen how much effort DMACK has put into developing and improving its tyres over the last few years and the results I have achieved this season have been very strong. This is a great opportunity for 2014 and it will be enjoyable for me to partner with Ott – I think this will be a strong team for WRC2 next year.”

Ott Tänak said: “After a year away from the world rally championship, I’m very happy to be back with a strong programme – thanks to DMACK and M-Sport we can do pretty much the full season. My first race in a WRC car was with DMACK and I know the team and the tyres well so it will certainly be an exciting season to look forward to.”
