GEICO Honda's Rookie 450 Tandem Ready To Get Season Started

While many people are counting down the days until Christmas, GEICO Honda riders Eli Tomac and Wil Hahn are eagerly counting down the days until the season opener of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series season and the start of their careers in dirt bike racing's top class.

And like a kid impatiently waiting for a visit from Santa, the days aren't going by quick enough for 250 champions Tomac and Hahn.

"I'm excited as can be to race this 450 CRF-R," Tomac said. "I was ready to make the step up and now I'm here and ready to go."

Hahn said he too is getting the itch to start racing again.

"I'm as ready as I always am this time of year," Hahn said. "I'd definitely be fine if we raced tomorrow. It's kind of a tough time of year because you are ready to roll but you know you probably need to back it down a little so you are fresh for the first race of the year."

Tomac said the off-season has been filled with his normal testing and training routine along with the pictures and commercial shoots that are as much a part of winter as anything else.

"It's been super busy," Tomac said. "I've been running around like a headless chicken. I like being busy though. Overall it's been fun. This is why I've wanted to ride dirt bikes my whole life."

Hahn said GEICO Honda team manager Mike LaRocco has come up with a series of team scrimmages that have included the team's 250SX riders in order get everybody in game day shape.

"The whole team gets together and we've been doing scrimmages and really pushing each other," Hahn said. "It's been a great simulation of race day. It's the best way we all can get our heart rates up like it would be on a race weekend.

"It's a full-race scenario. It's also awesome to have all our teammates around. You can go out and do 20 laps by yourself if you want, but if you do 20 laps with your teammate pushing you it raises the bar for everyone involved."

Tomac said those scrimmages have been extremely helpful.

"I feel like we're all pretty dialed in," Tomac said. "You never really know exactly where you stand until you race. My whole program is going good, my starts, my motos and everything that goes along with it. We should come out swinging."

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross Season gets under way on Jan. 4 from Angels Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, Calif.
