There are 51 days remaining before the 2014 Daytona 500. Hence the number for today is:

51: The number of career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series poles recorded by 2008 Daytona 500 winner Ryan Newman, who has earned the nickname "Rocket Man" for his prowess in qualifying. Newman won a single-season career-best 11 poles in 2003, his second full year at the NASCAR Sprint Cup level. Starting up front in nearly a third of the races must have agreed with Newman, who also posted a career high in laps led that season: 1,173. Newman will try to continue his pole-winning ways this year after an offseason move from Stewart-Haas Racing to Richard Childress Racing.
