Countdown To Daytona 500: 50 Days To Go

By Reid Spencer, NASCAR Wire Service

There are 50 days left before the 2014 Daytona 500. Hence, the number for today is:

50: The number of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races won by NASCAR Hall of Fame inductees Ned Jarrett and Junior Johnson. Jarrett also has two series championships on his resume, while Johnson won six titles at NASCAR’s top level as a car owner. All told, there are 12 drivers with 50 or more NASCAR Sprint Cup wins to their credit, and all but active drivers Jeff Gordon (88 wins) and Jimmie Johnson (66) already have earned election to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The next driver to join the exclusive "50" club is likely to be Tony Stewart, who has 48 career wins. Stewart is recovering from a broken leg sustained in a sprint car accident last August but has said he’ll be ready for the 2014 Daytona 500.
