Countdown To Daytona 500: 49 Days To Go

By Reid Spencer, NASCAR Wire Service

There are 49 days left before the 2014 Daytona 500. Hence the number for today is:

49: The number of career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series poles won by 1970 series champion Bobby Isaac, good for 10th most on the all-time list. Isaac claimed 32 of his 49 poles in two seasons—1969, when he started first on the grid 19 times, and 1970, when he added 13 poles to his resume en route to the title. Remarkably, Isaac converted 21 of his 49 first-place starts into first-place finishes. Only three active drivers are ahead of him in poles won: Jeff Gordon (74), Mark Martin (56) and Ryan Newman (51).
